America's Stupidest Congressman
Edited on Fri Dec-19-03 11:58 AM by Robb
Congressman Gil Gutknecht - Minnesota's First District.

Remember the astroturf letter to small-town papers we uncovered back in November? Well, this week Congressman Gutknecht reproduced it on his website.

I nominate Gil for ASC, at least this week. :eyes:

3. Tom Delay is the dumbest in America
The dumbest from my state though is John Boehner. He tried to make all of America a "right to work state" if you've ever been to the south you know that this is a scam. Because what you get is concentrated wealth and limited to no middle class. But John doesn't care about anybody but his snakehandling "Hamiltucky" constituants.

Message From Saudi Arabia
Letter to the Editor by Kim Hester, Fulda Free Press
Wednesday, November 26, 2003

As a patriotic American working in a dangerous corner of the world, I am gratified by the support of my fellow Americans back home in trying to make conditions better for me and our fellow Americans in the Middle East.

Many servicemen and women have come here, and some have died, fighting to ensure a peaceful future for this region and the entire world. Their task, and that of our President, is far from an easy one. But I am gratified to observe the fervor and dedication they exhibit in carrying out their dangerous duties.

I realize that there will be times of difficulty in the struggle to make the Middle East a more peaceful place to live. But the long-term goal of a more peaceful world should be kept in mind during these difficult times.

I encourage all my fellow Americans back home to continue to give their full support to our far-sighted President and to the servicemen and women fighting in the Middle East. Please keep them and all of us Americans residing in this dangerous part of the world in your prayers; and let's hope that all of us can strive to bring about the long-term goal of a peaceful, democratic region that experiences the end of conflict and disharmony and the birth of peace, concord and brotherly love.

8. Yup, that's it.
Here's a link to an archived thread here at DU, showing one paper's response to the news. Some papers had the sack to acknowledge the astroturf, most didn't.

Needless to say, I haven't heard back from this Congressman. :eyes:

But I heard an interview with Bill Frist today on NPR, he's a big dumbass too. I don't care if he's a doctor, he's at about the same level as Coach Hastert.

12. They changed the story..
It now links to some drivel about how we're gonna eat Europe's lunch because we work more and play less and it's our "Christian Work Ethic" that makes it happen...

And we DIE sooner and with no more money than the Europeans, too. But the article didn't mention that.

Shit, we still believe that "Quality Circle" prank the Japanese pulled on us 20 years ago?

16. We are still deeply indoctrinated by
The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (Max Weber, circa 1880). We may earn more, but we're collectively miserable and not fun to be around. It is idiocy to spend so much time doing things we generally hate, while justifying our idiocy by thinking that we MUST have certain possessions in order to display our success. I highly recommend Thorstein Veblen's The Theory of the Leisure Class, it is a great read and addresses the same issues that you posted.
