3. I think he is referring to Skinner's poll at the top of the board.
I voted, so I guess I can be considered "active."

2. Is active like being
a practicing Catholic? I lurk alot more than I post. I haven't been registered but a few months and am still getting the hang of things in navigation and such, but I'd consider myself 'active'. Where's the poll? I'll vote. :)

4. Look up
It's pinned to the top of the GD forum. It took me a bit to notice it was there too.

5. I usually ignore them
But I did go vote just now. Just to try to get everybody counted somewhere, sort of... or something.

6. I would say
the number of people who on a daily basis come on DU is significantly lower than the total number of people who are registered, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is only 1,000-1,500 people.

9. many simply do not like polls
as to being active, term needs to be defined. You mean those who jump into the fray around here? How about DUers who come here to learn and then take information from here to other places to help turn some lights on around the nation? Are they active or not?

10. well, i guess it could be construed as people who read DU and
are active elsewhere but i think the most logical assumption would be people who are active_in_DU. by that i mean posting/voting as 'active' versus reading/learning as 'passive' with no demeaning inference about passive since there are many reasons for people to choose a passive use of DU.

11. Probably, go through the Profiles lists
A good 90% of DUers have less than 5 posts.

14. Well said...
Polls in general can be useful IF the sampling is done properly. Self-selection polls are silly because of the major sampling biases... They cannot be used to generalize, and so they have no use...

15. no use???.....i disagree
this poll obviously will give a good indication of the number of and inclinations of people willing to vote in a DU poll of presidential preference.

16. Some people are not American...
A strange and disturbing phenomenon, I know...but many probably just don't feel comfortable voting in US candidate poll.
Not really fair to Democrats in the US who might really rely on the information...

17. Sounds about right
I would be really surprised if there were more than 2000 active members. DU is a very small group, which is not a bad thing unless people start believing that opinions here represent the opinions of a significant portion of the country.

19. I think you are close to correct
Probably only a thousand or fifteen hundred daily active participants but there are many who drop in occasionally and check us out. I suspect the same thing is true with Frei Republik. We certainly don't represent the party as a whole and are definitely the Underground. Doesn't mean we have less of a voice in fact maybe moreso than our actual numbers would suggest. We are getting quite a bit of notice by mainstream Media. I say Viva the Underground and Could Have and Should Have Been Prevented
