A caller on C-Span (might have been Larry King) had a good point. Outsourcing is probably a far greater factor in terms of taking jobs from non-minorities in the United States than affirmative action. Corporations and their political consortium known as the GOP are on the wrong side of the jobs issue.
Many African Americans have been having this exact same conversation since outsourcing really took off. It seems to me that Rush and company have it twisted. When I worked as an engineer there were 200 people in my group and only 4 of us were black. There were about 50 global engineers that were steadily replacing us. Even though we were obviously no threat to anyone, I would hear a few of my co-workers complaining about affirmative action. I thought are these people crazy? Are they living in some sort of alternate reality? It's amazing.
Wish I could take credit for thinking of it... It was some guy who called in on a talk show. I've added it to my "political quiver" for lunchroom conversation with the GOP people I work with. Can't wait for it to come up again. :-)
