How will *&Co. prevent a trial of Saddam, as they must?
There is no way they can let the truth come out about how Saddam acquired the WMD he may or may not have used on the Kurds. There is no way that a debate about whether Saddam actually gassed the Kurds or the Iranians gassed them will be heard. And what will they do about the huge international aid package given to Saddam by the US for “agricultural development” after the gassing of the Kurds will ever be widely known. What if Joe Q. Public found out that we gave foreign aid to Saddam after his crimes against humanity then waited 14 years to invade? It would be an unmitigated disaster!

They will have to kill him, or not allow him to defend himself. Since it will be hard to get a condemned man to agree not to defend himself his days are numbered. What will they do?

1. No problem
Just as soon as they get that videotape of Saddam saying he had WDMs, he'll die of a heart attack/accident/Jack Ruby shooting.

2. Well...
We've got people leaking his location (at least the city).....

But really, I think they could try him. He's managed to seem to smell like roses after everything else, he'll just deny it or give excuses to make it right. It's not that difficult. We'll just get the spin, the media's on his side. And none of them seem to care what the rest of the world think.

4. The trial would get some coverage.
Not on Faux or Rush, but some coverage. Enough that some people will find out what happened, that could tip the balance.

Maybe the'll schedule a terrorist attack during the trial to keep it out of the headlines. That would also make people think that Saddam does control the terrorists.

5. The past will not matter.
We were fighting the evil Iranians then. In this
Orwellian world, Saddam being our dictator won't make
it past the censors who keep "Uncovered" and "Unprecedented"
off of our corporate airwaves.

6. I think that they'll "cut a deal" with Saddam to have him lie...
in exchange for not getting the death penalty. Just think, Saddam tells the Iraqi court that he had/has WMDs and was instumental in 9/11 with his pal Osama. He then pleads guilty to all charges, sentenced to life and is supposedly sent to a maximum security prison somewhere in Iraq, when in reality he is living as a free man in some comfortable but secure location.
That would justify this whole war for the bu$hies, which would guarantee a 2004 lanslide election.

Whadaya think?

7. yeah
That's a definite possibility. :(

For all we know, we've had Saddam in storage since the first day of the war and just waited for the right time to haul him out. Osama is sure to turn up next fall if that's the case.

8. They have options. Did you notice in Sawyer's interview,
when she asked about Saddam being drugged? He *did NOT* dispute it. There was not a reason on earth not to say no unless he knew it was a likely tactic. He segued into how he doesn't know the details but that the US does not "do" torture.
