Some are asking the questions we need to begin to asking
"Good Morning America," is discussing trying Saddam in the US. Cynthia McFadden is talking to a law professor and Charlie Gibson actually asked him, "couldn't this all backfire in our faces since we supplied Saddam with some of the very things that he is accused of using?" Well said Charlie!

If this capture had been after the first gulf war, I think I would feel much more elated, but even though I'm glad that the Iraqi people are free of this creep, I still question the tactics with which we went in to Iraq. So many questions this administration needs to answer. For one, what about the WMD and HOW does it make it right to lie to the American people in order to overthrow a brutal dictator. Are we going to start overthrowing ALL brutal dictators now?

Waking up to this again still gives me that erie feeling that somewhere down the line this is gonna slap us right back in the face.

1. This is going to backfire.
And I'm glad some people are asking questions they should be asking. I still would like to know what charges we are going to file on Hussein since he hasn't committed any international crimes in over 10 years. Most countries in the world looked the other way while his regime abused the Iraqi people. Many of the world's leaders do the same to their own populations. This will be interesting.

2. Why would we try him here?
If not for Bush to brag I can not think of what Saddam has to do with the US Govt. This has to do with Iraq and its people. I bet if Bush is for it it is because Bush can put him to death and he would like that. It would also fire up his base. I do see a lot want it put into an international court and I am not even sure about that. The army will not get rid of him that is for sure. God he may be in a Texas jail right now. Bush will drag up that father thing all over.

4. The peoples of Iraq and Iran have legitiment grounds to put him on trial
We don't. If they drag him here, he might be leagally required to stand for some sort of work review, like any other federal empolyee who was insubordinate and insolent. Those are the only claims the maladministration could rightfully make against him here.

3. Current message seems to be...
Condensed version of what I'm hearing from every administration official I've seen on TV in the last day or so:

"We're going to try Saddam so we can prove he's a despicable, no-good, murdering tyrant and we were justified in invading Iraq. It won't be a kangaroo court at all. God bless America."

5. It would, but I'm
betting on a "secret trial". There is NO way our regime will allow an open and international one. It may prove to be the final insult against our British ally.
