2. Re-elected? He never got elected in the first place.
He was selected by SCOTUS. He will not be in office come 2005. Why?

3 million jobs lost (hello? Pres. Harding)
Economy sucks.
Alienated all our former allies.
Pre-emptive Doctrine (a real loser)....400+ troops killed, 10,000 injured
No overtime for anyone making 22K/yr
Medicare Reform (yeah, right?)
Reneged on support for AIDs.
Reneged on support for AmeriCorp.
Invasion in Iraq. Another loser. Lied about why we invaded. WMD? Where are they?

3. I'll be amazed if the overtime reduction goes through and
I'll be amazed if the overtime reduction goes through and Bush still wins the 2004 election.

Nurses and paralegals will have a huge pay-decrease. And they have friends and family. And even people who don't personally know someone affected will generally have sympathy for nurses.

5. Economy sucks?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 03:45 AM by economic justice
I agree with everything on your list except "The economy sucks." Our local building and trades council here says housing starts are up for the first time around here in 6 years. Building construction is on pace to break records. We cannot fool ourselves. The economy is improving. All the talk on DU about "fudged numbers" cannot be true as all federal department numbers are subject to independent auditing 3-6 months after public release. The CBO also can audit a department's numbers. It's wayyy too risky to try. No president has ever dared. I hate the fact that handing out cash to rich folks has the short-term result of an improved economy. However, we can't pretend it's not happening. Too much evidence that it is.

edit: Oops -- this was meant to be under Calidesi's post.

7. To a degree
but the economy is revving up to maybe someday equal what it was when Bush took office.

When an improvement doesn't quite make up for previous damage, it is hard to really call it a good economy.

Additionally, when the economic growth is due primarily to a back- breaking deficit, its hard to call it a good economy.

8. I never cease to marvel
at Bush's ability to maintain the support of rural voters while doing jack-shit to help them.

It's a hat trick of epic proportions with Fox News as assistant, assuring poor voters that they're not being fucked while Bush goes at them hardcore.
