No Political Show Trial for Saddam: Human Rights Watch

NEW YORK - Human Rights Watch welcomed the capture of Saddam Hussein but said the Iraqi Governing Council must not mount a political show trial of the former Iraqi president.

"Saddam Hussein's capture is a welcome development and it's important that the Iraqi people feel ownership of his trial," Kenneth Roth, the executive director of the New York-based human rights watchdog, said in a statement.
"But it's equally important that the trial not be perceived as vengeful justice," Roth said. "For that reason, international jurists must be involved in the process."

Human Rights Watch said that it "has compiled substantial dossiers on the crimes of the former Iraqi leader, and published numerous reports on human rights abuse under his rule, including genocide and crimes against humanity."

4. There's Not Going To Be A Trial
This regime won't let Americans get real justice, yet alone someone with as much damaging info as Saddam...especially before Nov. 2004. Now that he's on ice, he's where RoveCo. wants him...he can't release tapes or spew any things like Bush Family ties or who he really bought he weapons and sold his illegal oil to. Remember, covering ass is job one in this regime. The fact that Saddam wasn't made into a martyr is a bonus.

If Saddam does face a tribunal, it will be behind military closed doors and nothing like the Milosevic show going on in the Hague. C'mon, his regime has a total disdain for International law anyway. The cynical side of me says RoveCo. is trying to turn or spin Saddam (or might have already done the deal), where Saddam does some major mea culpa, pleads for mercy of the Iraqi people (I've been a baaaaaad dictator) and how wonderful the American were to liberate you from me...stop killing them".

Again, this is all about stealing an election...and Rove is lining up the ducks right now. Saddam will sit in the cooling pond.
