LA Times poll shows Dean is top pick among Democratic leaders
Presidential candidate Howard Dean is the top choice for Democratic Party leaders, enjoying more than twice the support of his closest rivals, according to a Los Angeles Times poll posted on its Web site Saturday.

Dean was favored by 32 percent of the Democratic leaders surveyed, followed by Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri at 15 percent and Sen. John Kerry, of Massachusetts, at 14 percent.

Other results show that retired Gen. Wesley Clark had 7 percent, John Edwards had 5 percent, Joe Lieberman with 3 percent and Carol Moseley Braun with 1 percent. Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio and the Rev. Al Sharpton had less than one percent. Twenty-two percent were unsure who they would choose.

The Times poll, taken between Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, interviewed 327 of 386 selected Democratic National Committee members. The poll did not seek to interview those who traditionally stay neutral until the party's nomination is made, such as national Chairman Terry McAuliffe. It also did not include committee members living abroad.

1. With Clark at 7%
where in the world do all the true bel;ivers think his winning support lies? This is what I don't get.

I like Clark, but he better do something real soon.

5. Whereas the polls of individual voters have Clark doing rather well
As I understand it, the national polls of individual voters show Clark doing slightly better than Dean in a one-on-one against bush. This sampling of political insiders and professional politicians should dispell notions that Clark has been pre-selected by any political machine. He IS the candidate of the people, at least more so than the others.

2. So the DNC loves Dean
The DNC and Terry McAllife are perhaps the biggest problem with the Democratic Party today. The Democrats continually loses under their leadership. Boy am I glad that they are behind Dean ... gives me so much confidence.

3. Please tell me, I don't see what makes Dean stand out.

From where I stand, Dean is popular because he is popular. I don't see what his kicker issue is.

4. That in and of itself is a good reason to reject Dean
The interests of the majority of the rich and powerful are demonstrably contradictory to the interests of the majority of Americans.

Find a candidate that they do not like, and then consider that person....

6. Unless, of course, the DNC endorses Kucinich
in which case it would become an asset.
