My local Borders refuse to display 2 anti Bush books because people get an
Last week I saw 2 books on the display table right when you walk into my local Borders Books & Music. One was "The Bush Haters Handbook" & the other was "The I Hate Republicans Reader". Well, I haven't seen it in a few days & figured they sold out. I over heard an employee tell another employee that they are now to be found in the Political science/current affairs section. They moved it because too many people became angry & upset when they saw it right there when walking into the store. I wanted to say something, but didn't know where to begin. Is this normal in Bush's AmeriKa???

7. That raises an intriguing question...
How big an industry will anti-Bush merchandise be in 2004? Recently, I read an article about Vanity Fair's owner or editor, who has been writing lots of anti-Bush stuff. It said companies are paying top dollar for advertising space opposite his anti-Bush columns!

That's one industry I'd love to cash in on!

3. Yes, it's normal.
I never heard of "The Bush Haters Handbook." Sounds good.

I wish Larry Flynt would publish something about Bush that sets new standards for sleaze - "The Pornographic Politico," or something like that. I had dreamed of self-publishing something about Bush myself, but it looks like the market's becoming glutted.

How about a George Bush set of Trivial Pursuit cards? Whether the topic is geogaphy, history or the arts, any answer is acceptable!

4. Well to be perfectly honest,
if I walked into a bookstore and a book called "The I Hate Democrats Reader" was prominently displayed, I'd have a word with the manager right away. So I guess I can see where they're coming from.

8. You are correct
A bookstore can't have a political bias. If they didn't display Franken's book, or Moore's books then you may have a gripe, but not displaying minor books with titles that seem to promote hate (which is never good) isn't anything to get upset about, especially since they are still carrying them in the store.

20. Borders Incorporated has a political bias
they are as political as FOX News, but I'm sure not as partisan. What has ever been more politically sensitive than free press?

19. How about "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War..."
...to the War on Terrorism." Fairly inflammatory title, no? Amounts to pretty much the same as calling it the "I Hate Democrats Reader," no?

5. The titles were pretty inflamitory
and seem counter productive to the cause. I admit, if two books called "the Clinton haters handbook" and "The I hate Liberals reader" were placed at the entrace to a store, I would probably assume that the store was pretty partisan, and I might not shop there in the future. From a shopkeepers perspective, I think it was a wise move.

10. I don't think it's counter productive or biased.
Anti-Bush hatred isn't just a manisfestation of partisan politics. It's also a sign that some people out there realize the United States is going to Hell.

I think it's good that people are ripping into that pig. It sends out the message that it IS OK to criticize the president. In addition, some people who aren't politically savvy may wonder what all the fuss is about and take a closer look. Controversy sells.

I'm not advocating a boycott, but that's my stance. They do shit like this routinely.

16. authors
The titles are so blatant that I questioned whether they were really written by Democrats or true bush-haters. I was thinking that maybe they were written by the R-W to further their line of thought that we're just a bunch of "haters." (could anyone outdo their orgiastic 11+-year hate fest of the Clintons?)

So I checked the authors. Here is what a BN snippet says about the author of "Bush-Haters Handbook:"

...this book is the brainchild of Jack Huberman, a former Canadian who took up U.S. citizenship just so he could vote against Dubya in 2000.

The editor of the other one is Clint Willis. Willis has edited books on the mob, mountain-climbing, the sea, etc. He edited one book on the Kennedys.

If they won't return those books to display, kick up a fuss over the conservative books that are openly displayed. (assuming there are still some out in front.)

23. This is due to how the Reich wing responds to speech they disagree with.
Hardly a week goes by in which I do not notice an example of the Reich wing responding to such speech with angry attacks, denouncing and threatening the source or seller with a rabid intensity. I think this has to do with the apparent necessity so many Reich wingers feel to deify and worship their leaders.

24. A business decision?
Most of America voted against bu$h. A more sound business decision would be to promote books that reflect the majority's opposition to bu$h.

But let a few people whine about the above-mentioned books, and it's suddenly "too many people became angry?"

*SNIFF* Smells like bullshit to me!

and I probably would agree. I would have to see all the major authors both from the right and left and how they are displayed before I would make up my mind.
