The Elf who saved the Christmas Debate!
I don't know how many of you were able to watch the Democratic Presidential Debate on Tuesday evening, but if it were not for Dennis Kucinich (and credit to Carol Moseley Braun and Al Sharpton), no real issues of the campaign would have been discussed - at least no real questions on those issues would have been asked of these three candidates. It was obvious Koppel was promoting the idea that the three candidates should just drop out of the contest. Ted Koppel started off asking about Al Gore's endorsement of Dean, hardly a campaign issue. When Koppel asked Kucinich this question, Dennis quickly put him in his place by stating how the media is trying to influence the election discourse, and therefore the election itself. I was proud of Dennis as he forcefully presented his platform in spite of off the wall questions.

Later in the debate, Koppel tried to avoid issues again by asking about polls. Dennis Kucinich nailed him again with this RealPlayer video of his reply.

Even if you don't support Kucinich for President (yet), why not let ABC know how you feel about candidates being limited in what they are allowed to talk about by signing this petition. On this page, broadband and mp3 versions of the above video are also available.

Dennis Kucinich is showing his leadership ability by his forceful answers, in spite of attempted media intimidation, and his blunt discussion of issues that the others just discuss in the most general words.

Elfs are not just for Christmas anymore!

1. kick-ass video
Sorry it cut out without much of a showing of Koppel's reaction. I'd heard there was a reaction in his expression. For those who saw it, what was it? Did he say anything in response?

Even if ABC doesn't back down, the other media (and even ABC) just might change some of their policies. Thank you, Dennis!!

2. Dennis had it right...
I must say I'm not (wasn't) much of a supporter of DK but he was right 100%, kopple had an agenda and probably did alot of harm to the debate idea. I look to see him used as an excuse for future pols not to agree to debates.

5. Koppel's reaction
He was about as deadpan as he could muster. He really showed no outstanding reaction; I think he quickly put his face into a bucket of cement just to freeze it in place!

Oh, he had a reaction alright - as did ABC. They pulled their reporters off of the Kucinich, Braun and Sharpton compaigns.

4. While most of the pack is falling over themselves for media attention...
Kucinich gets my attention for standing above pack & attacking the real enemy.
