U.S. troops raid Baghdad house, many dead, no sign of Saddam

BAGHDAD, July 27 (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers from a special unit hunting Saddam Hussein and his top lieutenants staged a bloody raid on a villa in central Baghdad on Sunday, but there was no sign of the deposed Iraqi dictator.

An American soldier at a nearby hospital said five bodies and at least eight wounded had been brought in from the scene of the raid. An Iraqi policeman said all the dead had been in cars fired on by troops as they drove through the area. snip

The U.S. soldier guarding the emergency ward of Yarmuk Hospital said all the dead and wounded brought in were male and had suffered gunshot or shrapnel wounds. A boy in his early teens was among the dead. Two bloodied corpses lay on the floor of the crowded hospital mortuary.

"Today has been off the wall," the soldier told Reuters.

8. Uber-sociopath Wolfowitz sez "murky data" is good enough
to start shooting and ask questions later.

But it's the 18-year-old kids that have to carry these orders out that will be psychologically scarred for life....

and the unlucky I-raqi civilians that will end up dead.

3. Terrible
Sorry, but between the five dead yesterday and this fiasco, I don't see how Bush ca keep up appearances. How much longer before the media dump him, despite his good-for-business policies?

10. not likely
killing Saddam will make any difference in Iraq anyhow. Wishful thinking, pleasing to the Amerikan gunslingers.

11. Killing Saddam
will let lil georgie* puff out his chest, go on national tv and make another mission accomplished/bring em on statement. Then the killing in Iraq will double and triple, especially when the iraqis realize what a vacuum exists.

14. just turn in anyone you don't like, and watch the U.S military
demolish them, their families, and all their property....

it's like a local lottery, and with any luck... U.S. soldiers might decide that your enemy LOOKS like saddam....and drag out another bloody and bloated human head as a trophy kill for the American public...

this is part of the problem, asking people to rat out their neighbors...you get a lot of revenge seekers....and tons of innocents caught up in a mad killing spree....

imagine the discomfort of the Iraqis...now that our pResident gleefully brags about his political assassinations....offering bounty money....and is now giving $30 MILLION dollars of our tax money to SADDAM's COUSIN....

this is all very crazy and very wrong...

15. I saw a snippet of CNN coverage of this incident

with lots of positive spin for the zombified masses. i.e. Troops getting more tips now; Iraqi informats are coming forward with reliable info; too bad we didn't get Saddam this time, but his days are numbered 'cause we're closing in; Saddam's on the run etc. etc.

The people of Baghdad must be in as great a terror as they were during the invasion. No one is safe there in their own house!!

How the HELL is life better there now, in 'Liberated' Iraq??????
