Dean claimed that he never said Saddam was a threat to the United States
this false claim was made today on TV (no link yet), however, several instances were noted where Dean clearly stated that Saddam was a threat to the United States.

1. Gasp
Howard Dean must be mistaken. He wouldn't lie to the American people unless it would save lives.

11. I think there must have been another reason for that question.
I'm thinking media is slowly noting all his inconsistent statements to hurt the party more than Dean. They could have seen all this stuff many months ago if they really cared about fairly vetting a candidate.

3. it's really sad how the pseudo-isolationist hard anti-war movement
has hijacked the party like this.

Anybody who has educated themselves about these issues from all sides and is not so blinded by an ideology will have to admit that Saddam was a threat IN THE LONG TERM.

Wether the US-Briton coallition invading 10 months ago was even close to the correct contraceptive for this threat is a completely seperate issue

7. Iraq was never a threat to the US--that's a neocon lie!
It is the US that is a threat to the entire world!

Paul Wolfowitz, the Pentagon's representative of the neocon intelligentsia, is the one that started the lie about Iraq being a threat to the US. Funny that the only country in the world to have used atomic weapons on civilian targets, and the owner of the largest stockpile of WMD the world has ever seen, thinks of itself as under perennial threat of enemies, internal and external.

We are the Oceania of Orwell's 1984!

8. threat to whom?
with that huge airforce (almost all of which was either BURIED under the desert sand, or rusting away in Iraq)?

with all those tanks?

with that huge, brave, well-equipped army?

with all those centrifuges, just waiting to whip up all that yellowcake that he could almost get his hands on?

with that one tube of botulinum in somebody's fridge crisper?

with all those high school science projects?

with all those mobile weather balloon facilities?

oooohhhh, scary!

15. He managed to finance and equip suicide-murderers in Israel without those
Saddam represented a permanent threat, one that was only going to get worse. No one who has studied Saddam Hussein's history and capabilities, suc as those detailed in the most persuasive pro-war book, Kenneth Pollack's "The Threatening Storm," can deny that Saddam represented some type of threat, primarily to Saudi Arabia and Israel but to a much lesser degree the United States. In their well-founded outrage at the imperialist, militarist, unilateral bent of the Bush administration, and its equally well-founded fear that its Middle East policies seemed likely to make the U.S.-Arab/Muslim relationship indistinguishable from the Israel-Arab one, many on the left preferred not to consider the real dangers posed by a megalomaniacal regime in an age when the apocalypse can be packed into a suitcase. Saddam's Iraq may not have been the imminent threat that Bush claimed it was, but to maintain that it was no threat is myopic

16. If what you say is true, then Saddam was a threat to Israel, not America!
Why should young American men and women die for fucking Israel? What has Israel ever done for us, other than the bombing of the USS Liberty, and the traitor and spy Jonathan Pollard?

13. I heard he gassed his own people (link to come)
and speaking of contraceptives, don't eeeven get me started on the rape rooms.

Can you blame us anti-war people? Even Condi says she didn't know nothin''bout no hijackings. How could we have known that our ideology wasn't looking out for us IN THE LONG TERM? Sometimes we forget that "everything has changed since 9/11", silly us.

Thank goodness the PNAC'ers where looking out for us and our good buddies on the Halliburton executive team. I guess we'll have to owe them one.
