Congratulations, Clark supporters
Let me be the first Deanie to congratulate the Clark supporters on the forthcoming Andrew Young endorsement. This is big and will tranlsate into a lot of support for General Clark.

1. Thank you, Walt...
I love the high road, don't you? :-) The air is so much cleaner up here...

8. The high road, meaning
Walt slanders Clark until he thinks that because Dean got the Gore endorsment, the primary is already won so he is now playing diplomat. High road, indeed.

10. The high road, meaning sort of the opposite of your post.
Since I have the inter-candidate flame fests on "ignore", I only respond to what I see as positive interaction between the camps. Hence in my world Walt has taken the high road here.

22. well, since you have those "inter-candidate flame fests on "ignore""
you wouldnt know of Walts participation in them, hence your praise for the high road he took by being conciliatory on this issue for political means.

11. Bertrand, Clark was my number one not long ago
I made my final decision based upon the Gore endorsement.

Everybody knows I've been all over the place on who to pick, until the Gore endorsement.

30. I think I am understanding your logic here
Because I decided on Dean when Gore announced his endorsement, it was an obvious slam of Clark.

I gotcha.

33. No
and you didnt answer my question. For example, i admire Bertrand Russell to the point that ive even derived my username from him. If he were alive today and endorsed George W. Bush, his endorsement in itself wouldnt change my negative opinion of Bush, or sway me to support him.

37. Ahhh, I'm seeing the disconnect here
A few weeks ago, I completely dismissed all negative feelings I had about the candidates and began looking solely at the positives.

This put things completely up in the air for me and I had great difficulty settling on a single candidate.

I admire Gore greatly, and at one point was considering getting on the draft Gore bandwagon after he announced he would not run. Since I can't vote for Gore, I can support a positive candidate whom Gore supports. I respect his opionion and have no negative opinion of Dean, ergo, the decision was very easy for me.

BTW, I will get behind whoever wins the nomination. I don't care who that is. They are all wonderful people deserving of the job and any one of them could beat the pants off the Dumbass*. I could have ended up supporting any of them, but Gore's endorsement is enough to convince me, of the nine, Dean would be slightly better for America than the other eight.

12. actually
if I am not incorrect, I think that Walt was a Clark supporter for awhile... and has had positive things to say about most candidates... and backed away a while ago from the caustic bashing posts.

What you write might be true of some deanfans, I don't know that it fits on Walt. Painting with broad brushes and generalizing an impression of a group and then casting that generalization onto a single individual - often leads to incorrect assumptions.

19. and throughout your searching period
I noticed that you moved away from bashing others - and were instead concentrating on the strengths of various candidates. We could all benefit from approaching the primaries in such a manner (the latter from - not the previous anger posts... but those were, I believe, quite some time ago... weren't they?)

32. Very long ago
Once I started looking at the positives, it became a very difficult choice indeed! After I started my search along those lines, I would have somebody barely as my number one and everybody else as my number two.

I suggest everybody start with all candidates as their number two and look solely at the positives surrounding each candidate. It isn';t easy, but you can come up with a number one via that methodology and you'll feel better for having done it.

Even Lieberman, whom I had the most difficulties coming to grips with, has a VAST number of positive qualities and would be a fine Democratic nominee.

35. WOW
talk about personal growth (that many of us have yet to do)... your illustration of the path taken - especially regarding Sen. Lieberman (and i know you were not a big fan) - is very impressive. We really would all benefit if we followed your approach. The Daily Democrat threads offer a chance to do so. Thanks for sharing the 'why' and 'how' behind your approach to reading and comparing each candidate from a positive perspective.

31. Re: Well you're just a Love Muffin, aren't ya."
Juvenile is a subjective interpretation of what constitutes being "an adult." It offers nothing to the debate, so next time dont substitute a label for depth.

I wish more of your fellow Deanies would follow your example of being a class act, instead of acting like a bunch of screaming children.
BTW, the Al Gore endorsement only reinforced the respect I have gained for Dean.

15. that is very gracious as well...
it is interesting to note that several people who used to be more highly "candidatisan" (like partisan - but in terms of a candidate) - have moved more and more into civil discourse - both in favor of their own candidates and in terms of being able to recognize some of the strengths of other candidates.

Glad to see this tone - may it become pervasive on these threads

This is the tone that needs to be taken when there is an endorsement instead of the shameful handwringing going on the last few days over Gore.

I echo your sentiments.

38. Good news for both Clark and Dean this week - I'm glad.
As a 60% Dean supporter and 40% Clark supporter, the more endoresments these two men get, the better off we'll be in the long run. We need to trim this race down to 2 or 3 candidates, and this will hopefully make the Dem primaries less bloody for everyone

IMO, it will take 110% effort from both of these and the grassroots folks to win against the Bush/Cheney/Rove junta. I just hope we get a Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean combo in the very near future. Thanks to (President)Gore and Mr. Young, we need to limit the Dem field and get united behind the strongest candidates very quickly...we need to focus on the prize..returning to the White House with a mandate.
