Walk a Mile: Making Politics Personal
this is a great idea . . . should probably be required for all elected officials . . .

http://www.walkamile.org/

"Walk a Mile is a unique education program. Bringing policymakers and people receiving public assistance together to learn more about each other's lives, to gain a new perspective...and to "walk a mile" in each other shoes.

"Walk a Mile matches leaders from state government, business and citizen governing bodies one-on-one with the welfare recipients whose lives are touched by public policies."

(snip)

"Our belief is that greater personal understanding between these two groups empowers governments and communities to find genuine solutions to the problems of poverty.

"Based on the idea that we can sometimes accomplish more across the kitchen table than across a podium, Walk a Mile creates a casual, open, educational atmosphere for the participants to talk one-on-one, share parts of their lives, and to gain a new perspective on poverty and our government."

- more . . . be sure to check out other areas of the website . . .
