Enough of this "Civil War"!
Since Gore endorsed Dean yesterday, we have seen a number of people on here throwing everything they can at Dean, with Deanies fighting back with their own partisanship. What has infuriated me is that DU as a whole as become one massive intra-party flame war. For Go'ds sake, we're even repeating rw talking points while fighting each other (Dean's another McGovern tax-raiser, it looks like it will be Gore v. Hillary in '08). My advice to fellow Clarkies and to Deanies is this:
Stop letting DU erupt into a massive flame war that appeases Freepers. Don't allow yourselfs to become so bitter that it will weaken our party and please only Rove. Deanies, don't get over-confident about Gore's endorsement, and still play the strategy that you were using before. On the question of Gore circumventing the nomination, this isn't like the DLC choosing a candidate, because Gore's not even active in the party anymore. Gore's a private citizen and can support who he wants, although this was probably not a good time to endorse Dean.

Just my 2 cents.

1. Amen.
I hope we don't see the same shit when Clinton makes an endorsement. Many of the Deanies aren't innocent either -- many flat out say they'd be angry if they didn't get a big name endorsement too.

4. I hope he stay neutral
and to the second post about expectations, Dean has spent the entire campaign DEFYING them, now the bar has been raised high, a little too high. What you and fellow Deanies need to do is not let Dean's status get out of hand, and make sure he doesn't peak. Election 2004 will be, by far, the most unpredictable election in our lifetime.

9. I saw a news blurb about Clark picking Hillary
that would be great. I can see that bringing so many people to the polls that no matter what secretive 1 out of each 100 votes are miscast-

a landslide.

And I'm not even a Clark supporter?

10. Don't bet on it.
Seriously. I wouldn't. If you think that the repugs are in attack mode now, just throw Hillary into the mix. Clark wouldn't do it. (I hope.)

2. Yeah, well you can take that 2 cents and shove it up yo-...oh, wait.
Seriously, I totally agree. I'm a Deaner, but I still don't feel like the nomination's alock; and I like Clark too! I'd never flame the guy; he's an extemely worthy candidate, I think.

5. Right!
I admit I made comments about the ugliness in two defense posts. I'm not overconfident, since it looks like Gore's early endorsement has served to divide us. I was thinking Gore would endorse a candidate months from now, and although I'm very happy with the endorsement, it has deflated a lot after seeing what people here are saying. The endorsement was too soon. To be completely honest, Gore's endorsement of another candidate would make me work all the harder for my candidate. I think many people who support other candidates feel the same. I'm just hoping that if Dean gets the Dem Party endorsement, the people here who hate Dean so much hate Bush more.

7. The endorsement war, will become insignificant....
Look for Clinton now to not make an endorsement but call upon his contacts to endorse Clark...to me the names Madeline Albright, and Warren Christoper come to mind.

That's it, names are names......nothing else. Now if Gore gives up some of that money he's sitting on to Dean, well then that would be significant, because it will put to rest the speculation of what his real motivation was. Until he does that it'll just be another issue which will sit and fester like a sore. Same thing with Dean's sealed records it'll just sit there on the radar.

11. Christ, I hope this thread doesn't turn into
another full blown not-so-civil war. A real turn-off. This is not the way to play politics within the party. Bickering is not doing the party a favor and opens the door to suspicion of subversion. We have a wonderful array of Dem candidates who have put their personal lives aside to represent us in the fight against a represive regime in DC. This is not a job too many people would be willing to jump into. Especially those who don't have a powerfull moneyed group backing them. Be glad we have so many good people to choose from. If you are not willing to support the cadidate who is nominated then let us know and go off where you are appreciated.
If you want to bicker and bloody noses why don't you ask the board owners for your own little forum instead of crapping up GD.

12. I Don't Want Civil War Either!
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 11:22 PM by MarianJack
I think that the Gore endorsement is a big thing, but it can be a 2 edged sword. Yes, it gives even more heft to Gov. Dean, but at the same time any candidate that may defeat Dean may be seen as even more of a giant killer now. Either way, Dean or another candidate, ANY of ours is better than the unelected moron that is holding our democracy hostage now.

I personally have considered John Kerry to be the best candidate for a long time. The fact that the bush brown nosing media has done sooo much to piss in his soup makes me think this even more. Regardless, I will support our nominee. I will do it actively, enthusiastically and passionately. Real President Gore was right about keeping our eye on the prize of sending the fraud back to his texas beer tap. The other candidates are right also to want to see some votes cast before they give up!

To repeat my signature line, which has been positive and geared towards unity even before it was a rule, ANY D OVER ANY r IN '04!!!!
