Dean says elections should be held in Iraq before a ....
constitution is written, and when asked about the Shite Muslim majority Dean didn't seem to think a victory for the Shites would be a problem. Then latter he stated that if Bush had not have gotten us into Iraq in the first place, we wouldn't have to worry about the terrorists that are now coming in to Iraq or possible Shite Leaderships having close ties with Iran??????

Did anyone else catch this one?

1. The shi'ite leader he was referring to
is probably Ayatollah Sistani (sp)

He isn't that bad. He doesn't really want Iraq to be like Iran, he just wants Islam to have a broad influence in government. Sort of a benevolent Pat Robertson type, or at least that's the impression I get...

But if they do end up electing an Iranian type government, there is not a lot we can do about it unless we want to install some sort of dictatorship, which would be.............

2. Yes, I Did
And there are solid principles behind it. Not the least of which is, until Iraq has a leadership who is loyal to its people and who the people are loyal to also, this war will not be over for there will be no one for us to negotiate a cessation / pull-out with.

3. One over-riding ethic...
that must motivate all U.S. actions in that country, regardless of who you support for president - Iraq for the Iraqis. Peace, justice and respect for all peoples and cultures, Shia or otherwise, will make the makeup of whatever government they choose irrelevant. Please stop the demonizing and fear mongering. By doing so you are doing the business of military/corporate interests.

4. Let's try that one more time.
What he SAID was that the Iraqi people should have a free election to elect representatives to a Constitutional Convention. And yes, it was Sistani who is not a radical Shiite.

5. I am sure they'll justify the Soviet Union too -
Also, it was funny how now he doesn't believe the 9.11 Saudi conspiracy anymore he just told it to Faux for laughs. I am sure there'll be a good explanation for it as well.

9. stating the obvious
I think Dean's rather stating the obvious with the whole "if Bush had not have gotten us into Iraq in the first place, we wouldn't have to worry about the terrorists that are now coming in to Iraq." Who doesn't know that this is the case?

And again, of course the Iraqi Shi'ia leadership has connections to the Iranian equivalent.

The question is, what now? My firm belief is that the International Community is done with W. It is our responsibility to elect somebody that the international community is going to work with - and that somebody is anybody but Bush.
