Civil war? Not by my hairless round rump :-)
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 05:24 PM by jpgray
Dean and the Clintons/DLC will get along just fine. I haven't seen anything here that separates this business from other primaries. Gore's endorsement is a great thing for Dean, but it doesn't mean as much as some on DU appear to think. The other candidates aren't going to feel they have to band together and remove Dean, the DLC isn't planning to torpedo Dean and set up a "planted" Clark in his place, or use Clark to get Hillary in (there's the weirdest theory). Joe is the DLC's boy in this election, and he will go, predictably, nowhere. The DLC will toady up to the nominee, whoever he/she is, and the nominee will be gracious towards the body, even if that body has been rather obnoxious of late.

We are stronger together than apart, even if we disagree.

edit: I should also add, barring a few exceptions, the DLC and Dean agree on almost everything.

2nd edit: I would also like to add that most of what seems to be "everyone against Dean" is frontrunner syndrome more than anything else. This would also include the massive *insider* support he has been getting from *all* sides of the party--wake up, this is just another primary, and Dean is not too different from the DLC--not to the degree that the two will fight it out and one will destroy the other.

8. It's in *everyone's* interest to back the eventual nominee
And when Dean is currently the frontrunner, no one is going to completely burn their bridges to him, whether it be a candidate or a political organization with in the party. Dean needs them, and they may well need Dean. The two are better fighting together against the Republicans than they are separate. Dean already wields plenty of insider support, the major difference is HOW they are carrying out the campaign, not the issues within, as Skinner says below.
