Crossfire (12/9/03) Wes Clark and Terry McAuliffe (re: Dean & Gore)
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/crossfire/

Gore's surprise endorsement
Tuesday, December 09, 2003 Ê

The campaign trail has taken CNN's Election Express to New Hampshire just as Al Gore's endorsement of Howard Dean shakes up the field. WeÕll have the latest. Next, presidential hopeful Wesley Clark soldiers on in his mission to capture the Democratic nomination. We'll talk to former general about his campaign. Plus, the chairman of the Democratic Party will weigh-in on the field, the Gore endorsement, and the direction of his party. Does the good news for Dean mean the nomination is his? Does it spell serious trouble for Joe Lieberman that Gore didn't endorse his 2000 running mate? We'll have all that and more starting at 4:30 p.m. ET.

TONIGHT'S GUESTS:
¥Ê Wesley Clark, Democratic presidential hopeful
¥Ê Terry McAuliffe, Democratic National Committee chairman
¥Ê Mark Penn, Lieberman senior adviser

1. Oh Good!
I hope he does his SMACKDOWN on Novak or Carlson! This should be good if they don't spend the entire time on Shelton. Thanks for the heads up!

2. I'll bet McUseless is pissed about this.
...Not that I care. Dean (or any candidate for that matter) winning without any help from that chickenshit bastard is exactly what I want to see. I hope Clark isn't siding with that sorry assed idiot, because it would lower my opinion of the General considerably.

18. I don't think so
I'm not a Clark supporter (tho not a basher either!), but I don't think he's necessarily a fan of McAuliffe, even if he is somewhat aligned with the Clintons. I don't think Terry will still have a job if either Dean or Clark win. Maybe some Clark supporters can shed more light on this though?

4. It spells trouble for Joe Lieberman that...
...he's Joe Lieberman.

Oooooh, Clark's on Crossfire. Should be interesting. I especially liked that "I don't pay attention to endorsements - except when they're for me" line. That line is most exemplary of what separates Clark from a bunch of the other nine - an almost otherworldly charm. That line could've come off as grandiose or dumb or disgusting, but Clark made it charming. Good to see.

Later.

9. It was all in the timing
It was perfect... you had that moment of 'What the f-, of course he cares about endorsements, that lyins s.o.b' and then he hits the second beat "except when they're for me." Brought down the house.

I love good humor.

32. you know why he said that
I think the DLC wanted Gore on the short leash from 1999 on but he wouldn't play ball during the campaign. THIS is why he's not "loyal" because he wouldn't sit there and just do what he was told.

36. no...
...the "disloyal" comment has to do with Gore's distancing himself from Clinton during 2000 campaign.

38. that's why the charges of Dean now as a DLC insider is silly
since he's endorsed by Gore, the guy who was pushed out of the DLC after the 2000 election.
