Good GRIEF...ya'll need to take a lude and calm down....
SOMEONE had to have the cojones to STEP UP TO THE PLATE and LEAD. God knows it's not coming from the DNC.

If you must lick your wounds because your candidtate didn't get endorsed by by Gore, by all means lick your wounds and GET ON WITH IT and UNITE.

Why is the roadmap to getting the Shrub out of the WH so oblivous to so many on this board?

14. My 1st thought
when I read the thread title! (Though I've heard they are manufactured in Canada and Mexico.)

Captain Clark - IIRC, only Rorer and Lily stamped 714 on the ludes.

6. Backstab? Not quite...
It shoudln't take a rocket scientist to understand what would have transpired if Gore had taken the time to call up each candidate and said "Look, here's what I'm going to do, and here's why..."

You think THAT cat would have stayed in the bag? As soon as one camp knew, it would have been out before Gore had the chance to call the next one and it would have been flying all over the grapevine and popping up as a rumor or a leak, which is not the way to handle such announcements. It would have ended up being even more of a ridiculous goat rodeo than currently exists with the shock and awe people are purporting to express.

There was no alternative other than simply making the announcement without any heads up.

15. Gore needed to call all of us
and tell us we no longer had a say in the matter. Primaries are for republicans. He couldn't stand up for his own vote, so he stole mine.

Al the supreme king maker! Let us all bow down to superior dean wisdom. Democracy is for sissies.

Gore could give a rat's ass about other people...just do as he says and learn to like it.

20. Please...
explain to me what is democratic about the primaries...

Is it the fact that the nomination is usually over after only 2/3rds of the states have had their elections?

Is it the fact the the three or the four largest states (Cali, Texas and NY) dont have any say in the process....

Or is it the fact that, prior to this campiagn, the money of the party insiders and special interests killed the campaigns of possibly more viable candidates?

But maybe you're right....Al Gore is a bigger threat than these three things to the democratic process....after all, he's probably going to come over to your house on election day and have a big guy sit on your chest till its over...

By the way...what state are you in? You may already have had your vote removed by the three points I raised...

27. So NOBODY should endorse candidates?
Gore has political clout, but his endorsement is principally the same as any other endorsement, a statement of support by an individual (or organization, in the case of union endorsements). In NO way is this "slanting the field" or an "abuse of influence".

If anybody is guilty of an abuse of influence it's From, who, esentially speaking for the DLC, came out very early against Dean. For From to make a personal endorsement (as Gore did) would have been fine. When his comments appear on DLC stationery, he's crossed the line unless he can prove that he's speaking for the organization and not just himself.

25. Since when does Gore have to poll us before having an opinion?
This is about the 10th time I have heard someone utter that particular piece of idiocy. Al Gore is a private citizen. A prominent one perhaps, but a private citizen nonetheless and he can endorse whoever he damn well pleases without having ask to anyone's permission, least of all yours or mine for matter.

4. I don't care if he endorsed him.
I'm annoyed with the suggestion that to be a good Dem, we need to quit fighting for our candidates and line up behind his choice. I'm already over it. No votes have been cast.

11. It came off as much to some of us
but its not that big of a deal. This endorsement is probably a bigger deal with Lieberman and some of the others. Pundits seem to agree it was a call to fall in line. Me, I think so but it doesn't matter in the final analysis. I think the endorsement was about Gore as much as it was about the endorsement itself.

Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 01:37 PM by radwriter0555
I love that stuff.

I feel bad for the folks putting all their eggs into the clark/dean kucinechnenek baskets.

By this time next year we'll all remember these guys as also-rans who ran outta money and steam with Senators Edwards and Clinton stepping up to the plates.

Regardless, the bush regime will steal the election again, so what's the point?

13. Not an attitude, but an informed position based on past history,
information, and worst of all, reality.

Hope is a nice thing to have, but in the face of reality, what's REALLY needed is a back up plan.

7. Okay it's about the war.
Gore was adamantly against it and Lieberman more than reluctantly voted for it, unlike some of the other Democratic Congress members, he was FOR it. Gore could not endorse him, so he threw his endorsement to Dean for his anti-war stance. It is as simple as this. Also, Gore has admired Deans criticism of Bush, and his ability to mobilize grass roots support. Now I didn't make this up myself. I have been listening to the MW's and this is what the pundits are saying.

For once I agree with them.

26. I hope they have a press
conference to announce it. AFTER some of the candidates have dropped out and people have actually cast their VOTES...remember those??? If it's down to 2 or 3 candidates by Feb or March, I hope they come out with a public endorsement of Clark.
