Idol-worshippers in Alabama
http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/xml/story.ssf/html_standard.xsl?/base/news/1059210900154230.xml

The court order requiring the removal of the Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Supreme Court Building could come as early as Tuesday.

<from the article>
"But John Giles, president of the Christian Coalition of Alabama, said any such order is a "red alert" for Christians. He said the Christian Defense Coalition of Washington and National Clergy Council of Fredericksburg, Va., will lead efforts to recruit Christians to kneel in prayer around the monument in the judicial building rotunda if orders to remove it are given.

'I think you can anticipate people of faith swarming into Montgomery from all corners of the country to peacefully preserve the
installation of that monument,' Giles said."
<snipped the rest of the article>

I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them."
Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Must I point out the irony of people bowing down around this big hunk of carved rock to "protect" it from being removed?

1. The carved image thing
is a head scratcher. Does it include wood carvings, molded objects, gold crosses?

Hmmm.

3. Who knows
The whole Old Testament is a head scratcher to me.

I do get the impression that gold calves are definitely a no-no, though.;-)

6. Thankfully, only in a few interpretations, since such readings of

that verse do not encourage art. Interestingly, Islam has a similar prohibition but they have developed very ornate designs in response to it, rather than banning art.
