Does Today's Endorse-A-Rama Seal It For Dean?
I'm supporting Dean, but I'll say Hell No! - Nothing seals anything - except for that final vote tally.

BUT - I hope all the other candidates think twice as hard now, whether they really believe that they have a legitimate chance at the nomination (and of course, a few still do!). If they soul search, and come back with a YES, then they should work twice as hard.

Dean, or whomever eventually takes it, neads to earn the nomination. Still, the few marginal candidates should unofficially put on the brakes, then after Feb 3rd, they shoul step aside for the top tier, and we should have a pretty clear idea at that time the names of the top 3 or 4 candidates.

1. As Dean himself would be the first to say,
not one vote has been cast yet. I feel better today than I have since Bush was installed, and it's nice, but it's just one day. Lord knows, anything can happen.

4. Let's face it, if Gore's endorsement changes someone's vote
you have to wonder if that person was really convinced of his support.

All this does is help Dean get his name into the pool of undecided voters.

7. I don't think it will necessarily "change" somebody's vote, but it
might very well sway an undecided voter and it does bring more exposure for Dean. Both are good things.

5. Doesn't guarantee anything
but will sway some people. I think whoever gets the nomination should be able to stomp the Crawford Cretin in the general election - assuming it's a fair election, as opposed to a Diebold/Katherine Harris/Jeb Bush type election.

8. Does a Gore endorsement really carry any weight at all?

9. it does to the undecideds, which still is a large number in IA and NH
but not to the committed supporters of other candidates here on DU.

11. It might seal a loss for Dean
Gore is not renowned for his political ear.

13. Motives
I honestly suspect that Gore's Dean endorsement is little more than a flipping of the bird to Lieberman, Clinton and the DLC for hiding up their own asses during the recount fiasco. For my part I'm far more interested to hear Clinton's endorsement, and he's been behind Wesley Clark thus far, has he not?

14. Not at all
First off, (and this is not going to be the first time I will say this) I will take the high road and refrain from badmouthing ANY of the candidates (humorous jab at Lieberman yesterday in the Lounge aside). It really does no good, IMHO, and only divides the party. My first choice is ABB, but my second choice is Clark. I really believe he would make an outstanding president. But I'll be happy to see anyone but Bush win next November. And that includes Howard Dean. But I suggest all take this high road and stop flaming each other.

The Gore endorsement will give Dean some brief PR time, but it will be short lived. Will the endorsement bring in voters from outside the party in November? Not too likely. Will it help in the primaries? A little. I do think Gore acted too soon, though, but that's my opinion.

I agree with the original post here. This will be fought over the next six months or so. Let's see what happens.
