Would it have been OK for Kerry to call George W Bush "this chickenshit"?
Just wondering. If he had, at least he would been speaking accurately, unlike some who've used the phrase on other occasions.

<edit>

Whatever his detractors said of Paul Wellstone, he had a heart that was bigger and braver than anyone else in Washington.

In 1991, the first President Bush contemptuously dismissed him with a barnyard remark that was reported in Newsweek: "Who is this chickenshit?" asked the president about the new senator from Minnesota. Wellstone was openly derided, on the eve of the first Persian Gulf War, for buttonholing Bush and urging him to avoid war. Freshman senators were not supposed to talk much. And they really weren't supposed to try to change anything. Wellstone, with an indefatigable mouth, wanted to change everything.

His last Senate speech, like his first, was against a war in the gulf. He may have changed somewhat over the years, growing more at home in the halls of power, but his beliefs never changed much. What you saw was what you got. And whenever it was gut-check time, Paul Wellstone had the courage of his convictions.

1. avoiding the issues
the bush asses are just avoiding the issue of bush's handling of iraq and just about everything else by wanting to focus on a word used to describe it. and hypocritical considering bush called a reporter a major league asshole just for being critical of him rather than addressing the points made by that reporter.

4. Kerry can say...
Fuck all he damn wants, but saying "I don't think anyone thought he would?" I'm a damn 19-year-old college student from Jersey in college at New Orleans and I KNEW, JOHN! Cursing I have no problem with, but lying I do.

Later.

6. Frankly Kerry could have called Bush
anything he wanted to call him, as far as I care. I have problems with Kerry, but this isn't one of them. This is such a non-issue it's silly.

8. That's how Nixon worked.
They not only beat those who opposed them. They destroyed all who opposed them.

Anyone seen John Kerry, lately?

12. I LIKE That Idea!
Wellstone's profile on the dime is the least we can do for a man who lived his life to make life better for ALL. It was in the best tradition of American leadership Wellstone entered politics. All he did was to use the power of government to build a better nation and world.

That tradition is emblazoned on every dime. FDR stood for all that is good about politics. Franklin D Roosevelt didn't have to work a day in his life, but he gave his life to public service. His bravery led out of Depression and showed us the way to victory in World War 2 over the fascists who wanted to rule the world. Roosevelt's compassion brought us Social Security and worker's rights.

10. Full memo ;
Note to self: Exact revenge on Chickenshit Wellstone at some point in the future. Wait until politically satisfying time - like when the senate is 50-50 and his disappearnce could give us control. Check with CIA director re: that new sleeping gas stuff they came up with for one of his small plane campaign trips.

13. Odd how that other Liberal scion, JFK Jr, also died in a plane crash.
Unlike his father, JFK Jr left no heir.

When the BFEE is in power, the good die young for a reason.

16. Well it's only been 39 months ...
since Bushie's infamous "major league asshole" comment was caught by that microphone.

So where's the line here? You can call someone an asshole -- clearly derogatory and directed at someone specifically. But you can't be told that you 'fucked' something up. Which -- while vulgar by many standards -- is simply a direct way of saying "you suck." Or would most magazines simply print that as "you s--k"?

The hypocrisy drives me nuts. Not only that, but now we're probably going to have to hear about this for weeks. I hope Kerry stands his ground.

17. I wish he had!
I have no problem with Kerry's use of the F word. Bush deserves it.

As for Bush's 'chickenshit' remark. How fucking stupid does that sound coming from the biggest mass-murdering chickenshit chickenhawk in town?
