Will Bill Clinton endorse Dean now?
He might think Dean is a loser against Shrub and pave the way for Hillary in '08.

14.  Bill Clinton dug in against everthing the r-wing had to throw at him.
He and Hillary are still doing it. Read "Blinded By the Right" by David Brock: "The Hunting of the President" by Conason and Lyons.

12. Clinton will not endorse
anyone until the primary is over. You never know what can happen on the way to the party. I wish no one any ill by this remark. Hillary said she wouldn't endorse and so did Bill. They should keep their word and I am sure they will. There is no love lost between Gore and Clinton. I am surprised that Gore is doing this. Remember guys we need to win. Bush is the enemy!!! Gore is stif necked just like Leiberman. The religeous guys.

6. I will be glad to see someone else leading the Dems--Good bye Bill
I don't hate Bill Clinton, I just think that we need the party to be led by someone who is going somewhere instead of "Mr. Been there, done that"

And don't worry about the Hillary thing. I don't know who on earth thinks this first term Senator can seriously launch a race for POTUS.

8. Of course, that obviously is what held up Gore's endorsement
Al wanted to make sure that the Clintons were on board before he went off on a limb.

9. No, not now.
Aside from whether or not Clinton likes Clark, it would be too soon for a former (seated - Gore won too of course but never held the office) U.S. President to endorse one Democrat over the others, before a aingle vote has been cast in any primary. However if Dean is doing well enough after the first two weeks of votes (which would include the action in NM, OK, SC, AZ etc.) Clinton might consider it then, saying it is best to unify around a candidate etc. I really can't see him making any formal nods before Feb. at the earliest. This helps Dean, no doubt. Clark is the only other Democrat with any momentum right now, he will really have to turn it on to keep this a horse race.

10. Actually, I've got a feeling...
That, if this report about Al Gore endorsing Dean is true, Hillary, or perhaps her husband, too, may weigh in on the side of Gen. Clark--setting up a proxy battle for the nomination. Quite possible, since Clinton DID have some high praise for Gen. Clark awhile back. If the Al Gore endorsement of Dean does indeed go down, look for one, or both of, the Clintons to do something for Clark fairly soon--we know them, and they won't be "up-staged" by anyone, especially by their former V.P.

I really wish Al hadn't been so hasty to do this, if it's true!x(

B-)

Obiviously, Gore is alinging himself with Dean to achieve a Declintonization of the party.

17. Or he is making an endorsement based on his own beliefs
and isn't letting Clinton dictate terms to him. Clinton isn't our one and only star by which this party navigates. He is one of the brighter ones, but it takes a many starts to make a constellation.. or something like that.

31. I Agree (In Part)
I think Gore also wants to signal to the Draft Gore diehards that it's over.

Oh yeah, and I think Gore wants to see Bush get slammed, and must believe that Dean can do it with a united party behind him.

21. Why the hell would he endorse Dean?
After all, Clinton embodies the very same New Democrat centrist policies that Dean (who was a New Democrat himself throughout the 90's) is now campaigning against.

In any event, Clinton isn't going to endorse anyone. Former presidents, as a rule, remain neutral during the primaries.

Clark has a serious chance of winning and that would screw Hillary over until 2012.

I think that's their plan. They want Dean.

25. Gore will be endorsing Dean in Harlem tomorrow....
Right in Bill's neighborhood, if he wants to join. I doubt that he will endorse at this time. This is a stab at the DLC and the Clinton's hold on the Party.

I was wondering what Harlem had to do with it, but I didn't attach it to Clinton's office. Sounds a little too blatant for Al Gore, don't you think?

27. I am expecting a big move toward party unity soon.
The Dean campaign has shown it's stuff in Fla. Dean supporters from all reports nearly doubled the size of the gathering.

There are more people working for Dean in Fla a year before the election than were working for Al Gore the day of the election. This is just as true in many places around the country. When you can get a few thousand volunteers to drive across state to support you a year in advance, you look like a winner.

The Clinton's, Gore, and many other leaders, being politicians for their trade, know what a strong campaign feels like. Protocol probably dictates that Clintons wait until some votes are cast and the likely result in pretty well known.

The problem with front loaded primaries is the dead zone between the determining of a winner and the convention. I fully expect that the party leaders will unite around the presumptive candidate well before the convention.
