What does Gore's endorsement of Dean do to Lieberman?
The president in exile doesn't even endorse his VP. I figure he'd wait until he drops out at least.

time to drop out Joe, it's OVER!

2. have you ever seen old WW2 Battle of the Atlantic footage?

Like where the U-Boat torpedos hit a big freighter amidships?

THAT'S what it does to Joe's campaign.

12. Al's Not The Most Loyal Guy
Edited on Mon Dec-08-03 05:24 PM by Doctor Pedantic
I'm happy about the endorsement, and man, what an embarassment/slap in the face to Holy Joe.

I'm a little troubled, though, by this mini-repeat of 2000. Gore, for whatever his reasons (I think they were mostly personal), completely distanced himself from Clinton during the election. This after eight years as Clinton's VP, which resulted in his practically being handed the nomination (sorry, Bill Bradley fans).

Now here he is again, distancing himself from his former Vice Presidential candidate. Lieberman constantly invokes Gore's name, and has shown no sign of deviating from their prior alignment. Now Gore jumps ship and refuses to endorse Lieberman, or for that matter his former colleagues in the Senate and House.

Again, don't get me wrong -- I like Al well enough, believe he was robbed in 2000, and think the nomination will really help my guy. But you have to wonder if he has any loyalties to anyone other than himself. Shocking in a politician, I know, but still....

22. Ah, Lieberman stabbed Gore in the back at last year's DLC meeting
when he said that Gore's populist message cost them the White House, but polls proved that it was Gore's populist message that helped him win the popular vote.

24. Lieberman is the one who has been disloyal
Lieberman stabbed Gore in the back after the election by placing the blame on Gore's populist platform, and I believe that he was instrumental in convincing people not to back Gore this time around, leading to Gore deciding not to run. Gore owes absolutely nothing to Lieberman.

4. Lieberman??? Let's see, wasn't he somebody once?
Perhaps, he and Zell can get together and whine about the Democratic party not being republican enough.

5. Mark my words...
A wave of overwhelming LIEBERMANIA is about to sweep the nation, making Gore's endorsement moot...You heard it here first. Also, monkeys are going to fly out of Joe's ass any day now.

7. Joe had gone to far to the right I think.
That was the trouble last time between Gore going to the middle and Bush going to the middle no one knew what was what.Just as Nedar said.

17. Very gracious I'll bet
Senator Lieberman and I are very close friends, and it was a difficult choice, but when you have so many good candidates, you know you're going to disappoint some of them and I'm sorry for that.

10. He's done
Remember, Dean helped Gore in the primaries. Lieberman never stood behind Gore during the thwarted recount.

Gephardt and Kerry didn't do much either. We may see several candidates drop out after this which is good for the party.

15. I guess if you want a friend in Washington, by a dog
Lieberman is a decent man, he deserves better than this.

I hope before he drops out he'll say what's obvious, that Gore did this so he'd have an open primary in 08

19. Give me a break
Dean can win--people who don't agree listen to O'Reilly, Hannity, Coulture too much. Also, Gore owes no allegiance to Lieberman--Lieberman is a sellout who dragged him down in 2000.

21. Gore is attempting to change the face of the Party...
By endorsing Howard Dean. He respects the grassroots support of Dean and this is a slap in the face to Joe Lieberman and the DLC wing of the Party. Gore recognizes that he beat Bush in the popular vote because of his populist appeal to the grassroots, contrary to what many may say. He sees Dean as a person that can rebuild our Party from the base up - rather than the top down. That is my opinion.
