Who would be the most politically advantageous VP for Dean if.....
he wins the nomination? Who would be the most politically advantageous VP for Clark if he wins? Dean would probably need someone from the South to balance the ticket or someone with a military record to qualm any questions about his defense credentials. If Clark wins, then he would probably need someone with legislative experience to work with the Congress and Senate. If Kerry were to win, he could pick someone from the South or someone with credentials that would appeal to the South. Any thoughts?

1. I still think Clark will be the best choice, however, if Clark doesn't get
the nom, then is he damaged goods?

It's nothing against him, but when people lose a race, they tend to drop out of sight for a while.

In any case, Dean should NOT pick a sitting congressmean or senator--go for someone outside the Washington incestuous system--that's how Dean got this far already.

2. Dean should pick Clark,
Clark would be wise to choose Dean or Graham, Kerry should go with Clark or Graham.

Thats my 2 cents

3. I think Clark would be the best VP for Dean
but I don't think Dean would work as VP for Clark. Maybe Edwards for Clark in a repeat of Clinton-Gore when we had 2 southerners. What about Spitzer? I don't think Americans would care that neither had DC experience.Clark could campaign on rescuing the military and Spitzer could campaign on rescuing the economy.

4. I'm hoping it'd be Clark, or Richardson, or Graham
although Richardson's a strong sell with me.

5. Clark Ticket
I'll start off by saying a Dean-Clark, Clark-Dean ticket is off the table (to my mind). And you are right, Clark needs a VP who is both Congress-savvy and fluent in domestic policy. Clark/Graham is my pick. I like Clark/Edwards, too, but I really like Edwards for AG.

6. Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean is not practical
They are both "outsiders." They both need balance with someone with years and years of political experience. Graham is the perfect VP for either of them.

7. All signs point to Graham.
Dean said he wants an "insider" who knows the ropes.

Probably needs a Southerner.

Florida is key.

12. Graham is boring. Florida was only key because of the butterfly ballots
They won't be key in the next election. All the roadblocks in the world won't save Jeb Bush and his cronies.

18. Florida= 27 electoral votes.
Edited on Sun Dec-07-03 05:58 PM by RUMMYisFROSTED
It is a swing state.

I stand by my comment. Florida is key.

On edit: And yes, Graham is pretty boring.

9. I agree
with ringmastery. Plus, there's no chance Clark would agree to be the VP candidate. If Dean wins (my 2nd choice after Clark, both are great), Clark would be ideally suited for Sec of State. I think Graham would be a terrific running mate for Clark or Dean, and Edwards for Clark but not Dean.

13. Edwards is a thought.
There are various reasons. He is likable, got a huge reception yesterday at the convention, a sincere one. I don't like his IWR vote but it might counteract Dean's stance.

I do love his accent, but that should have nothing to do with it.

I love Graham as well, and he most definitely needs to be in anyone's cabinet.

14. Doesn't Graham have heart problems?
Thought i read that somewhere recently. If not, I think he would be a good choice, but I also like Erskine Bowles or Leon Panetta.

16. I bet Cheney's had more heart attacks than Graham has.
Graham could seal Florida, but Dean would lose the chickenhawk card. And that's about the best card the Dems have to play.

19. Graham
He has the gravitas and insider knowledge. He's
respected by both sides of the aisle, is a Southerner
and a Floridian, both key to reminding voters of
2000.
