Monty Python and wannabe conservatives
Clippity clop. Clippety clop. Clippety clop.

Do you remember the scene in Monty Python's "Holy Grail" where the "King" is galloping along with a broomstick toy horse between his legs and and there is this schmuck skipping behind him banging two coconuts together to make the sound of a horse? Remember the look on the coconut-guy's face? He looks as if he has the World's most important job, serving his royal majesty on their vital quest. Serious and regal as a judge. Nobility on quest.

I think of that guy whenever I read or hear the tripe that the Bushie's and Dittohead's spew about lower taxes and their noble "conservative" polices. About personal accountability. About their, oh so, simplistic mission ridiculous. These guys are about as truly "conservative" as the horse that fucking idiot is riding in the "Holy Grail" is real. But, there they are, everywhere you look- on the web, on TV, on the radio, in our newpapers, at the grocery store. And you can't shut them up, they keep banging those damn coconuts together- talking up how gallant a steed upon which their heroic "King" rides, how noble, how majestic a beast that their idiot "King" is riding.

Even the guy who bang's the damn coconuts together thinks to himself, "Wow, what a striking figure our brave and noble "King" makes riding his impressive white horse."

Only people who can see the King's "horse" can see the liberal media that the coconut banging Hannity, Coulter and Limbaugh tell them about. Only people who think we are lowering taxes as the deficit goes over $700 billion can see the horse. Only people who can straightfacedly talk about the idiot-in Chief with the broomstick as bringing dignity, accountablity and honesty back to our White House (as he lies and gets people killed).

How brave he is, this AWOl "King". A War hero, in fact. Somehow destined, in his regal robes and inherited toy broomstick horse, a born ruler and genetically deservant of Lordship over us, the lower classes, as if he were a deity himself. Him and the coconut guys.

Clippity clop. Clippety clop. Clippety clop.

2. And remember
the knights who say "Niger" and who demanded a Shrub?

What about the black knight who kept yelling "bring it on" even when his arms and legs had been chopped off?

(What a great movie -- when I was thirteen. Didn't laugh as hard when I saw it again a few months ago. But damn, a cow being launched by a catipult split my adolecent gut for some reason years ago.)

7. You may be on to something here
Sounds like a great paper for someone majoring in film studies and political science.

"An examination of the prescient metaphors for the Bush administration in Monty Python's 'Quest for the Holly Grail.'"

4. You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship:

WOMAN:
Order, eh? Who does he think he is? Heh.
ARTHUR:
I am your king!
WOMAN:
Well, I didn't vote for you.
ARTHUR:
You don't vote for kings.
WOMAN:
Well, how did you become King, then?
ARTHUR:
The Lady of the Lake,...

...her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur.

That is why I am your king!
DENNIS:
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
ARTHUR:
Be quiet!
DENNIS:
Well, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!
ARTHUR:
Shut up!
DENNIS:
I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
ARTHUR:
Shut up, will you? Shut up!
DENNIS:
Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system
