Daily Democrat: a positive discussion about Carol Moseley Braun
In an effort to provide for some enlightening discussion, rather than partisan flaming, the administrators have decided to post regular threads about the candidates for the Democratic nomination which are reserved for positive discussion only. These threads will be called the "Daily Democrat".

Currently, we intend to post two Daily Democrat discussion threads per day. If a particular thread becomes too long, then the moderators will open additional threads as necessary. These discussion threads will be allowed to stay open until the next two Daily Democrat threads are opened at some point the following day.

THE RULES

The rules for these Daily Democrat candidate threads are as follows. (For the purposes of these rules, the candidate who is the subject of the thread is referred to as the "Daily Democrat".)

1. You are welcome to post anything positive about the Daily Democrat. You can explain why you support that person. You can dispel myths about that candidate. You can discuss that person's positions on various issues. Whatever.

2. You are allowed to favorably compare the Daily Democrat to other candidates, provided that you are not unnecessarily inflammatory or antagonistic to the other candidates.

3. You may not post attacks of any kind against the Daily Democrat. Furthermore, you cannot post criticism and try to pass it off as a compliment ("I enthusiastically support candidate X because he ruined his state's economy!")

4. You may not discuss the supporters of any candidate (that goes for the the Daily Democrat, or any other candidate).

5. Undecided voters are encouraged to ask questions about the Daily Democrat in order to better inform their choice. Note that criticism disguised as a question will not be allowed.

6. You may not start another discussion thread for the purposes of responding to comments made in the "Daily Democrat" thread. Sorry -- you just have to suck it up and let the positive discussion continue uninterrupted.

7. I will not babysit the Daily Democrat thread, because I believe it will not be necessary. It is the responsibility of every member to know and follow the rules. Deliberate disruption of the Daily Democrat thread, or efforts by opponents to influence the Daily Democrat thread, will result in the banning of the individual(s) responsible.

8. I reserve the right to change the rules as necessary to make this work.

TIMING

We will discuss two Daily Democrats per day, and cycle through the list of presidential candidates in modified alphabetical order.

1. Way underrated. . .
. . .because of the way she left the Senate a lot of people have taken shots at her. But anyone who looks at her objectively knows that she is a much stronger candidate than people give her credit for. She might not be President or VP material, but she is a lot more qualified than people give her credit for.

15. In case anyone is curious.
This person who posted these deleted messages just learned that I was serious about my threat to ban people.

It was a donor with over 1000 posts.

16. I'm curious...
As to what rule he violated? I read the post, but apparently not closely enough to see a negative comment about CMB. Not questioning your authority, but since you're using this as an example maybe you could elaborate since the post is gone...
Thanks.

It was a negative comment about CMB. If the member who posted it wishes to provide some sort of explanation, they are welcome to contact me directly.

18. On review, It appears that it really was meant as a positive.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 11:45 AM by Skinner
I googled it, and apparently CMB uses the term to describe herself. Didn't really sound like a positive to me or the moderators. My bad. See, even admins make mistakes. The person has been reinstated.

I didn't think I saw anything that could be considerd a violation, but like I said, maybe I didn't look closely enough.
Fwiw, I like these threads and thank you for them...

and I have a great deal of respect for her. I love listening to her, she has a way about her. As a woman, I wish she had a better chance.

in this campaign. In spite of her baggage, which is little known to many, she is doing a good job on behalf of us (women) all right now.

5. If we apply the same standards to Carol...
That we apply to the front-runners, ie, that mistakes are made, people learn and grow from them, and the important thing is to unseat this current fraud, then I could vote for her.

6. Classy lady!
She was the first politician I ever campaigned for in her run for the Senate. She's smart. She stands up for civil rights. She fights for our Democratic values. She's a great lady and I hope she's given a position in the new administration. :)

8. she has the best plan for healthcare
all the other candidates, including DK should stop compromising and get behind her ideas. Let's have single payer universal government healthcare not tied to employment. It is doable and it will save the american people a bundle on the cost of heathcare.

PS... If the same standards were applied to her as some of the front runners, people would stop talking about her "baggage". They all have baggage....it just seems so much more acceptable for whiteguys in suites.

9. I really like CMB
Whenever she comes on in a televised debate, I immediately relax to hear what she has to say. I like her message and I think her universal health care plan is great. It's just too bad we're not in the right time for it. I don't want CMB to drop out before the primaries are over....

This woman is one of the most eloquent speakers I've ever heard. We need her as a representative here in the US, not as an overseas Ambassador.

19. I love CMB
She has been a victim of the corporate media whores, who keep dredging up her past over and over instead of asking her about issues, etc.

If CMB does not win the nomination, I think she'd be great in the Dept. of State, Labor or Health. I love having a woman running for Prez.

I was offended at George Stephanopolous' This Week, last week, when he lumped Kucinich, Sharpton, and CMB all together and gave the 3 of them less than half an hour.

I think CMB has brought a lot to the debates, and has represented blacks and women very well. She always stays so calm and cool, and shows great stateswomanship. When I contrast her with some nitwit like Liddy Dole, CMB is a much more serious presidential candidate.
Carol Mosley Braun, you have done all Democrats and Americans proud. Thanks for running!

just on her smile alone. :)

I look forward to hearing her speak at each debate. She's eloquent, intelligent, and well-informed. If she doesn't win the nomination, I sure hope that someone finds her an administrative position.

It's certainly time to take the Men Only sign off the White House door.

22. Brings Dignity; Grace To Discussion

CMB makes me proud, as she carries herself with dignity and grace.

She is extremely smart, yet very thoughtful.

When she speaks, people stop and listen.

Her perspective in the debates has been terrific.

I would like to see her in our adminstration - and as someone else already said - here in U.S. so people can see how strong she really is.

24. CMB is one of my favorites...
Exceptionally bright, articulate, knowledgeable; and possess' that wonderful, "presence" that just brightens up anywhere she goes.

Her convictions are strong, because she is strong. She will not back down from confrontation, and will dismember false arguments with surgical precision.

While I do not believe she will receive the nomination, the new administration would be exceptionally wise to place her in a position of authority. The State Dept would be perfect, for if anyone can undo the damage the present bunch of clowns in power have done throughout the world, it would be she.

:kick: for CMB

is a class act.

She holds her own beautifully on a stage filled with men.
She inspires me. She takes a stand.
I admire her greatly for participating in this process.
I love listening to her speak and always look forward to it.

26. The First Woman President or VP should make us proud and
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 05:18 PM by pistoff democrat
I believe Carol Moseley Braun would do that and more.

Information from her website:

In the Senate, Carol Moseley Braun built an exemplary legislative record, serving among others on the Finance, Banking and Judiciary Committees.

Among the highlights of her wide-ranging legislative work, she:

1. spearheaded debate on repairing the nation's crumbling schools,

2. sponsored the brownfields tax law that provided essential impetus and support for environmental remediation,

3. helped to craft a tax policy that assisted widows to obtain pension benefits,

4. restored the interest deduction on college loans, encouraged retirement savings, and expanded opportunities for the poor to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit,

5. pushed through farm legislation, transportation support, and economic security initiatives of value to the people of Illinois and to the nation,

6. sponsored the creation of the Sacagawea dollar coin, honoring the contributions of women of color to this nation,

7. sponsored the authorization the Park Service's historic preservation of the Underground Railroad **, preserving an essential part of our nation's legacy of progress on race and civil rights, and

8. was a consistent and strong voice for equal opportunity, the prevention of discrimination on the basis of race, gender or sexual orientation, reproductive freedom, and social and economic justice.

Also, a labor endorsement: Mike Fitzgerald (Business Manager of Local 134, IBEW) offered his Personal Endorsement for Carol Moseley Braun for President of the United States on November 6, 2003.

** I don't believe, although I have no proof, that this refers to the historic preservation of UGGR. ;-)

She has a quiet thoughtfulness while staying sharp on the point.

Very handy trait in any leader, especially on the diplomatic front.

And her courage is very admirable. If she cannot win the nomination, and I confess it is a very long shot, then she deserves a high position in the next cabinet.

I like what she says and that she is so well informed and so articulate. I hope if she loses the nomination that the nominee would consider her as their VP running mate. This would put her in place to be President eight years from now.

32. She's been important
Without CM-B, the female perspective would be entirely absent. She is a constant reminder that a woman has never served as president; at the same time her presence in the field keeps the prospect alive. She addresses every single issue with intelligence and grace. I'm willing to bet she has impressed a great many people to their own surprise. I am extremely proud of her and of NOW for endorsing her in the primary.

33. She's an "Ambassidor" who has a better view of America than those
PNAC/RW folks that the Repugs want to "Push Off" on us right now. She speaks for Children and American Females who are so disgusted with "Powers that Be" that we say: "Who's speaking for us?" CMB was chosen by National Organization for Women" which says she could speak to us.... but like Kucinich she Speaks to ALL of US! I love her!

In all the debates she brings coversation/debate down t o Iraqi Women/American Women......and she talks about "How are American Families Dealing with Bush?" And she get's that it's "NOT WELL!

She's a delight..and has experience to bring to the table of discussion.
