The End to Dem-Green flame wars can be through IRV
I've been hearing people on here talk about how IRV voting would unite us, but without knowing much about it myself. After learning more about it, I think it is the only solution to keep us united (the only downside is that we wouldn't be able to defeat * with someone like Perot or a Libertarian...maybe this is why Congressional Democrats haven't spoken out on this much). But it does make sense, and would essentially kil the two-party system in favor of a multiparty one. I'd like to see states apply it to House and Senate races too.

The two majors hold all the cards, and they're not about to play the Green's game.

6. I disagree
I think people realize that had we enjoyed IRV in 2000, Nader would have gotten 5% and Gore would have won. Sounds win win to me.

3. Gotta second Walt on this one
Why on earth would either party do anything to end their virtual monopoly on american politics?

IRV is an idea whose time will someday come, Im am certain, but not anytime real soon. What bothers me is the unreasoning vituperation that overcomes folks when discussing those who basically share so many views and agendas.Rather than realising that there are many points of commonality between progressive Dems and Greens many follow the lead of the conservative democrats who really do have reason to fear the rising voice of the Green Party.

5. gotta third Walt on this one
In Michigan there is an organized effort to advance IRV, but the major parties aren't interested. Like most progress, it will take years of grassroots effort. Eventually, a major party will see utility in adopting it, and then the snide comments will subside.

7. I like IRV.
I support it. So does my candidate of choice, Dennis Kucinich.

I also support proportional representation. Of course, that's because I'm not "mainstream," and I'd like one chance to feel that a representative actually represents me before I die.

Many of the "fringe" voters would like to see IRV. Since we're not a majority, it could take decades to make it happen.
