Yeah, well, that's not just limited to Telecom, Mike. Ever look to see how many American automobile and motorcycle manufaterers there were at one time? Seems like every large city had at least 2...Same thing for radio and TV, Hallicrafter's, Crosley, Tuska, Hazeltine, Philco, Atwater-Kent, Zenith, etc....
And the last one left, Zenith, sent their production down south years ago.
