most of America doesn't know who the fuck Wesley Clark is… and an even smaller # of people knew who he was before he got in the race.

so, your point is?

Dean Asks General to Join Him in Primaries, Aides Say
http://query.nytimes.com/search/restricted/article?res=F20815FA385F0C728DDDA00894DB404482
By JODI WILGOREN (NYT)
BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 10 -- After months of friendly discussions about national security and other issues, Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont, asked Gen. Wesley K. Clark to join his presidential campaign in some capacity if General Clark decided against making the run himself, aides for both men said tonight.
''The governor's told him repeatedly that he should run if he wants,'' Joe Trippi, Dr. Dean's campaign manager, said at the campaign headquarters here. ''I'm sure that along the way the governor's made clear that we want General Clark's support if he decides not to run for president. I assume every other candidate has done the same thing.''
--------------------
Dr. Dean, whose summer surge has made him a focal point of the nine-person primary field, has often spoken fondly of General Clark, in public and among his friends and supporters. The two men are both darlings of the Internet, which spawned a Draft Clark movement and has been fertile ground for Dr. Dean's fund-raising success.

THEN DEAN DID WHAT HE DOES BEST....HE BACKSTABBED......

describes Howard Dean pretty well, too.

15. ???
Bob Kerrey is a lot less of a no-name than Howard Dean. He's one of the brightest, most capable men alive in America today. A Governor, a Senator, a succesful businessman, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, you name it, this man is it.

I think a lot of us would have supported him had he been persuaded to run this time for the presidency.

8. Yes.
Kerrey may help us in the midwest, and has war and washington experience. The "warcrimes" stuff is the only negative I can think up, though that may actually make the ticket stronger, sick as it sounds.

if Dean wins the nomination and doesn't look south for a running mate, he's toast.

16. Kerrey and Kerry are good friends
From what I've seen of both, I prefer Bob to John (John is better than Bob on the issues, but seems slightly less able to do what needs to be done), but they are both good, capable men who had served their country well in many capacities.

In fact, if I am not mistaken, Bob Kerrey has endorsed John Kerry.

19. Why would anyone vote for
these two with no leadership value at all. America needs leadership. Dean will be DOA if nominated. Time to look to Clark to save the party, thus saving America.

20. Kerrey's known, all right
and has an excellent resume. But he is from Nebraska, a small state, and couldn't even guarantee the ticket would carry that.

Whoever wins, the VP choice will be based on helping in a key state or constituency. The country is too closely divided, as witnessed by the last election, not to take a shot at a close state, probably one we lost last time but a relatively small margin.

If Dean wins, he would have to either do that, choosing Gephardt for Missouri or Bayh for Indiana or Graham for Florida or Breaux for Louisiana, or try to appeal to Hispanic communties in several states (Florida, New Mexico, Colorado) by picking Bill Richardson.

Any of those would also help balance the ticket with Washington experience.

The same applies to whoever wins: pick a state we lost in 2000 to try to win with the VP, or pick a VP who appeals to a broad constituency.
