Unbelievable quote by Dick Armey.
(Has this already been discussed? If so, guess I missed it and am sorry to post it again.) This comes from the Texas Dem. Communication Director and is part of a weekly e-mail of Texas political events.
Quote of the Week
"They (Republicans) have had control for 10 years, they've gotten arrogant, they demean the institution, they demean democracy by virtue of the heavy-handed way they run the House, minority rights are downtrodden, and it's time, Mr. and Mrs. America, to make a change."
-Former GOP Leader Dick Armey, quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle, 7/22/03.

3. It not just believing what he is saying, it is putting it out there for
others to read and think about that I find so astounding.

2. No, they haven't screwed it up good enough yet...
Let's give them about 4 more years...Why make it easy for them? make a mess and leave it up to the Democrats to clean up...then take the credit...People may need a little more of the Repubs...sort of like an overdose of ExLax..

13. You must like to see people suffer
Do you stuff down popcorn, as all those Iraqis are mowed down. Do you love hearing about death and destruction everyday. If you are holding out until 04 think your going to get an ultra leftie, you are really foolish. What a stupid statement to make.

14. Are you serious?
As it stands now it's going to take years to fix this mess. Another 4 years and the clean up could take decades. Too many people are hurting in the meantime.

I figured you had an outrageous quote by Dick to which I would have responded that I, living in Texas, had found it absolutely believable that he had said it because, well, he's a f***ing republican.

If he really said that, I am shocked.

5. It came straight from the Tx Dem. e-mail and they have never sent me any
misinformation. I would like to know what the article actual was that it came from.

6. WOW!
It's time, Mr. and Mrs. America, to make a change...

Has Dick Armey switched parties? Good golly, wouldn't it be sweet to have Dick Armey, former House leader, to come out and officially leave the GOP? Is this confirmed? Can someone get him to repeat this? Because I just...whoa...Dick Armey? Mr. Impeachment?

8. He may also have been talking about
that fiasco in the House Ways and Means committee last Friday - the "Fruitcake Flap" - where Bill Thomas (R-CA) called the cops on the Democrats - and later issued this sniveling, teary-eyed mea culpa on the floor of the House.

Well, if Armey's talking like this (not that I trust anything that comes from a guy like him) - maybe he HAS had a chance to sit back and rethink some of his opinions since he's not neck-deep in House crap anymore. Maybe some of that ACLU stuff HAS rubbed off on him. What we need are a few redeemed rethugs. This could be good.

9. No, Armey has been VERY critical of late about...
He has been very critical of the big brother mentality in the Bush administration. He is making speeches concerning this for the ACLU. He has been catching grief from a lot of Republicans and he is BITING BACK. I hate Armey's views on about 75% of the issues, but when it comes to civil liberties - very seldom do I disagree as he sounds just like a good progressive Democrat. Believe it or not!

The relationship between him and Bug Boy was a little more tense than has previously been reported.

The Texas Dem was taking it a little out-of-context - but the point is well-taken.

Lexis brought up the following:

Armey said Thomas, whom he called "abrasive," handed Democrats an opportunity to showcase their new strategy to wrest back control of the House.

"The theme is 10 years of one-party rule is enough," Armey said. "They (Republicans) have had control for 10 years, they've gotten arrogant, they demean the institution, they demean democracy by virtue of the heavy-handed way they run the House, minority rights are downtrodden, and it's time, Mr. and Mrs. America, to make a change.

"That isn't a whole lot different from the case we made in '94, after 40 years," Armey said, recalling the stunning GOP takeover engineered by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

19. after the first dozen triple bourbons, Lee Atwater appeared
flying through the air on an oversized flaming cell phone and said: "At the tone, you must atone, at the tone, you must atone, at the tone..."

Dick tripped over his jaw, fell to the floor and screamed for mercy.

Trembling, he poured another. Not knowing he was mumbling, he said: "it must be a clue...a clue...a...clu...aclu...damn, out of ice."

20. Good he said it
It was also mentioned that Bush did not win the majority of votes in the 2000 election. I have not seen that very many times since then. That is also good to bring up.
