2. I think he could, but not a good idea to be on the ticket
He'd be 80 yrs old at election time, I think.

However, he would make a fantastic ambassador to the United Nations. That would be perfect for him.

4. Sure...
Bill Clinton could be Vice President, just As long he doesn't run as President.

6. nah
Clinton can't since he served two terms as President. If something were to happen to the President, it would be a Constitutional violation for Clinton to serve as President.

11. it said he can't be ELECTED President more than twice
this also includes VP because of the way elections are, but he could be appointed VP if something were to happen to the current VP, and then could take over if something happened to the President.

13. Yeah...
...but I think that the SCOTUS will ensure that it doesn't happen, citing Kissinger as a precedent (he couldn't be president because he was born in Germany, but as secretary of state he was 4th in line for the presidency under King Richard, not including the King himself).

18. I think someone like Clinton could even be elected VP...
not that I'm advocating this as a political idea, but the 22nd Amendment just forbids him from being _elected_ to the office of _President_ more than twice, as ButterflyBlood points out, and I don't think being elected _Vice President_ is different in this context from being appointed VP. The 12th Amendment says that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States", but Clinton is not-- as ButterflyBlood also points out-- ineligible to be President, just ineligible to be elected President. Thus the 12th Amendment bar doesn't apply, so that from a strictly constitutional point of view I don't think there'd be anything stopping Clinton from running for VP, though I suspect a lot of people would consider it an unfair evasion of the _spirit_ of the 22nd Amendment.

19. Thanks for the info, DavidNY, and welcome to DU!
I think anyone here would welcome Clinton back in any capacity, but it is unlikely. Maybe sometime in the future? We can only hope. His intelligent, clear voice would be so welcome.

7. Maybe Carter could get the economy fired up
Right now the Carter years could kick start our slaging markets and fix the unemployment.

10. I doubt it.
I live near Carter, and I doubt that he would accept. He seems pretty content to be retired from politics, and doing other things like the Carter center and Habitat for Humanity. (He still does the work projects, even though he's about 80.)

I think he would make an awesome Secretary of Agriculture, though.

12. No, please no...
...first, the guy's foreign policy was as belligerent as everyone else's, but he also touted himself as a pacifist or something. You can only listen to your hawkish, anti-Russian secretary of state so many times before people see the sham.

Plus, on religion and atheists' rights, Carter can easily be Lieberman's VP; having an evangelist as VP doesn't give an air of caring about the most liberal religious group in the USA (maybe apart from Jews and Unitarians).

15. He's an American Baptist, a fairly liberal denomination
he quit the Southern Baptists quite awhile ago. I doubt he's anywhere near as a bad as Lieberman.

17. I see...
...but he's still an evangelist, which means that he thinks that it's his divine duty to convert me to evangelism. I'll pass him by, thank you (unless he supports a pro-atheist issue like Newdow vs. Congress, which I highly doubt).

somehow I don't think so

However, Carter could serve in any number of important posts in any administration.

16. I think Jimmy Carter is extremely happy in private life,
though he has been far from idle. He continues to travel widely, putting out fires, when he is asked, and spreading a lot of good will. He also recently won the Nobel Peace Prize, which I think was long overdue. I really believe that history will be kind to Jimmy Carter.:-)

Do I think he would be a wise choice? Check out my avatar!:D

Do I think he would be likely to be drafted or accept? Sadly, no.:-(
