The Thanksgiving Stunt Worked
I hate to say it, but the American public is eager to swallow whatever Rove is feeding them, and he hasn't even really kicked into gear yet. I would like to be more hopeful.

Poll Says Bush's Approval Is on the Rise
By WILL LESTER
ASSOCIATED PRESS

***

Bush's job approval was at 61 percent in the National Annenberg Election Survey conducted the four days after the holiday, up from 56 percent during the four days before Thanksgiving. Disapproval of the president dropped from 41 percent to 36 percent, according to the poll released Tuesday.

***

Public opinion about Bush personally also improved during the four-day, post-holiday span, with an increase in the number who view him favorably from 65 percent to 72 percent. Republicans shifted from 83 percent with a favorable view of Bush personally to 94 percent. Democrats moved from 46 percent to 55 percent.

Public opinion on the war in Iraq did not shift significantly, however. People were about evenly split on whether the war in Iraq was worthwhile before the holiday and afterward.

Approval of Bush's handling of Iraq increased slightly, with 44 percent approving and 53 percent disapproving before Thanksgiving, and people evenly split on that question now. The public view of his handling of the economy also shifted from a 45-51 percent split before Thanksgiving to a public divided almost evenly on his handling of the economy, 50-48, afterward.

10. CNN had this on Headline News this AM.
I know it's one of the minor polls, but why not discuss it instead of shooting the messenger?

I kinda expected the Chimp to get a little boost from his Thanksgiving publicity stunt. After all, for once it seemed he was doing the right thing, the press went for it like a largemouth bass goes for night crawlers, and everybody was like, 'now that's more like it.'

It won't last. I really think Chimpy has played all his trumps, and it's downhill from here. The 8% growth will prove itself to be a one-time deal, our boys will still die in Iraq, Congress will continue their pursuit of the idiotic culture war over the interests of the people, and we'll be even worse off in the 'war on terror' come election time than we are now, or when we started two years ago.

I say he'll be at 48% come Christmas Eve. Why is that? Because traffic is too light in the shopping strip. I remember 1999, when I couldn't find a parking spot even a quarter mile from the other end of the mall from where I wanted to go. Now I get to park anywhere I want. So Christmas shopping season sucks. What now? Another surprise visit to the Middle East for turkey dinner, this time dressed in a Santa suit? Any decent poker player or NFL special teams coach will tell you you can't pull the same crazy stunt twice. It's game over, dudes. Don't worry about the National Podunk 7-11 Poll.

6. Crock of shit.
There is NO WAY that man's approval rating is that high. He is the most despised idividual on the planet....He may have exceeded Hiltler's ratings in that regard. Never will I believe he's that popular.

7. I'm waiting to see a major poll.
I'm sure he will get some bounce out of it, but that's a lot of bounce. I want confirmation before I believe it. Even if it turn out to be true, there is no reason for panic, or really even for concern. The election is still almost a year away.
