a rant about Dean on Matthews last night
Okay, I'm really tired, but bear with me ....

This was brought up last night as Matthews was doing his usual twenty-cups-of-coffee manic hammering of Dean, and Dean was trying to get a word in edgewise and Matthews was saying "isn't capitalism good? Isn't regulation anti-capitalism" and Dean managed to bring up the point that in capitalism you have to have RULES and he said "could you imagine a hocky game without rules" (which I thought was great)

but somebody needs to say this:

The "invisible hand" of capitalism is all about competition. Capitalism only "works" (as in getting the best products for the lowest prices) if there is COMPETITION. But with no regulation, what you DON"T get is competition, you get the biggest most successful companies eating up all the other companies and growing into near-monopolies!

THAT'S why you need regulations, to keep capitalism running.

These fuckers don't get it. Matthews even said something like the corporate control of the media was okay because "that's capitalism". But it's not!

Without competition there are absolutely NO benefits to capitalism.

You might as well live under communist Russian rule as have ONE media company giving you your news. It's the same goddamn thing.

Dean has this uncanny way of saying what I think, so maybe he'll say it next time.

2. Well said
A point also made clear in David Korten's book "When Corporations Rule the World" which you can probably find a the library.

3. your common sense gives me a headache
I've been watching the news networks for the past hour so obviously I'm in a state of logic deprivation therefore your post is a shock to my system.

very well stated, I agree.

4. thanks. I'm so sick of this "if it's good for a corporation ....
...it's good for America" bullshit.

Somebody needs to remind the American people of Adam Smith 101.

5. Another DU poster once said...
Republicans hold the bizarre belief that they should destroy the economic system that defeated communism (FDR's activist Federal role in the economy) and replace it with the economic system that spawned communism (laize-faire, unregulated capitalism).

6. It's a waste of time and good ideas going on the Tweety
scream show. The only person he ever let finish a sentence was Lucienne Goldberg that I know of, and I don't know why unless she had offered him a book deal. All the candidates would be wise to stay away from the hostile talk shows because none of them are legitimate news discussion shows anymore.

8. Well Said1
In retrospect, its one of those things that make you go:
"Well, Yeah! Duh!"

So simple, but so often ignored.

You would think there would be more Teddy Roosevelt Republicans around. Come to think of it, why the hell was Teddy a Republican?

He seems more progressive than some Dems that want to be elected to office next year...
