I will tell you a little story about something that happened today.
I work alongside a 43-year-old conservative stockbroker, a very funny guy. When I started working at the firm, my co-worker would often be on the phone, speaking with an obviously liberal friend, arguing about Iraq and Saddam - that we should kick ass, basically mouthing what the CNBC pundits were saying. As in most brokerage offices, CNBC is shown non-stop on the multiple TVs on the trading floor.
So one day I said to him: "You know, I'm so scared of those WMD, I can't even sleep at night". Of course, I was joking, but he took it seriously. Saddam was such an "imminent" threat, you know. And my friend every day after would ask me, "Do you think they are going to find those WMD"? And one day, I finally said: "What WMD? It's all Bullshit."
And then he argued that that Saddam was so evil, it's a good thing we invaded Iraq. So I told him that Bush is the worst President I have ever seen- and I've seen them all since Eisenhower. I told him that we were spending $ 4 billion a month in Iraq which should be used here at home for jobs, insurance, senior drugs, etc.
I am a very unusual stockbroker- a liberal. I was a financial analytic software developer until BushCo put us out of business. So now I work with a bunch of brokers who are usually Bush apologists.
Anyway, today my friend was talking to someone on the phone; maybe it was his liberal buddy. This is what he said: "You know, I'm a Republican, but I think this Iraqi thing is all bullshit. Bush lied when he said that Saddam had WMD. We should be using that $4 billion a month right here".
And a little smile formed on my face. I thought of DU and how we love to hear anecdotal evidence of the impending fall of the Bush House of Cards, as Repubs begin to see the light. These people are not stupid. They just need time to overcome their right-wing bias and they are gonna see the light.
And that's all I'm going to say about this..
