DUers, I will a little tale tell...
I will tell you a little story about something that happened today.

I work alongside a 43-year-old conservative stockbroker, a very funny guy. When I started working at the firm, my co-worker would often be on the phone, speaking with an obviously liberal friend, arguing about Iraq and Saddam - that we should kick ass, basically mouthing what the CNBC pundits were saying. As in most brokerage offices, CNBC is shown non-stop on the multiple TVs on the trading floor.

So one day I said to him: "You know, I'm so scared of those WMD, I can't even sleep at night". Of course, I was joking, but he took it seriously. Saddam was such an "imminent" threat, you know. And my friend every day after would ask me, "Do you think they are going to find those WMD"? And one day, I finally said: "What WMD? It's all Bullshit."

And then he argued that that Saddam was so evil, it's a good thing we invaded Iraq. So I told him that Bush is the worst President I have ever seen- and I've seen them all since Eisenhower. I told him that we were spending $ 4 billion a month in Iraq which should be used here at home for jobs, insurance, senior drugs, etc.

I am a very unusual stockbroker- a liberal. I was a financial analytic software developer until BushCo put us out of business. So now I work with a bunch of brokers who are usually Bush apologists.

Anyway, today my friend was talking to someone on the phone; maybe it was his liberal buddy. This is what he said: "You know, I'm a Republican, but I think this Iraqi thing is all bullshit. Bush lied when he said that Saddam had WMD. We should be using that $4 billion a month right here".

And a little smile formed on my face. I thought of DU and how we love to hear anecdotal evidence of the impending fall of the Bush House of Cards, as Repubs begin to see the light. These people are not stupid. They just need time to overcome their right-wing bias and they are gonna see the light.

And that's all I'm going to say about this..

2. Wow! That's Cool! I can't wait to have one of my own stories

The part about your being a "stockbroker" :wow: was a little jaw dropping for me. Like you said..."I am a very unusual stockbroker- a liberal".

3. Nice story, thanks.
I do love anecdotal evidence. I think it says so much more than poll numbers, probably because I have never been polled, nor has anybody I know. And people will say things to friends and neighbors that they might not say to a voice on the phone.

Two older couples in the booth next to us. Just caught snippets, but...

He's just a dummy who reads from a script...
He's an idiot...

One guess as to who these people were referring to...

6. Little victories.
They mean so much and those little battles won will win the war with conservatives, who still havent shed the scales on their brains. Thanks for your post. It makes an otherwise bad day for Democrats, better.

8. we need quiet skilfull means to help others understand, because
when people get aggitated the adrenaline pulls blood from the brain and the resulting lack of O2 reduces the IQ 20 points. they are less likely to be able to understand you, this is the purpose of the 'culture of hate'. to deep the Reich wing supporters stupid, a little information can be a dangerous thing for stupidity. try not to over dose them, a little at a time, what is current on the tv, it will help them notice it on their own...because they are auto invalidating you... easy and skilful,be nice

10. My Uncle had to take his wifes car
to my sisters wedding over the weekend. His Jeep has a Bush / Cheney sticker on it. I flipped out like I was on acid the first time that I saw it, and he knew the family wouldn't take kindly to that tension during the wedding. Our family is kinda lefty; there were 3 anti Bush shirts at the Breakfast the next day.

There is a Town in Texas that is short one idiot.

13. I've met a few Republicans who USED to be fairly wealthy....and I
assure you that each of them is PISSED OFF at Bush. The one I spoke to most recently who is still looking for work after 7 months said Bush has drained money from the U.S. economy in order to feed the Pentagon and its wars (and his rich corporate sponsors).
He has done a complete 180 degree turn and said he will probably vote Democratic for the first time in his life next time.
I didn't have the heart to mention the whole voting machine fraud scandal.......
Next time.
