Janklow's Defense Attacked

Doesn't sound like Janklow's defense is holding up - he denied blood sugar was an issue at the time of crash, and his initial explanation was taped --

..."the Moody County coroner, Tad Jacobs, told the jury "there was no significant evidence of severe hypoglycemia," or low blood sugar, when he spoke to Janklow about 30 minutes after the fatal crash.

The doctor, who knew that Janklow was diabetic, said he specifically asked the congressman about his blood sugar. "He said that it was okay," Jacobs recalled."

..."the jury also heard a tape of Janklow's initial explanation of the crash. Talking to a state trooper shortly after the accident, Janklow said he "was slowing down for that stop sign" when he saw a small white car approaching from the left.

To avoid this car, Janklow told the trooper, "I had to gun it" through the intersection."

I was really unhappy to hear the prior convictions/tickets weren't coming -- it seemed that Janklow was going to walk away with blood sugar defense - but I didn't realize the coronor spoke to him about it at the scene.

when they took him to the hospital?

There was no white car. He's had several other accidents involving phantom vehicles - including the time he hit a bus in Rapid City. The witnesses say there was no other vehicle.
