HR 2239 Status Report-Check to make sure your Rep. is on this list!
Here's a link to the list:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d108:HR02239:@@@P

We need to have as many cosponsors on this list as possible. I am still working on my Congressman (Peterson, MN-7), but Minnesota is now represented on this list (Go Betty McCollum!)

1. Thanks for the link!
I just got out of my local meeting. DUers, make some noise! Contact your representatives, senators, state legislators, secretaries of state, and local journalists. Let 'em know we want *action* on this, or wave bye-bye to your birthright.

4. Contact Sen. Durbin
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 08:53 PM by mndemocrat_29
He's on the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. As of two weeks ago, there hadn't been a companion bill, though I don't know if they've started one. If we don't have one, we need one.

The other senators on the committee are:

Democrats
Chris Dodd
Robert Byrd
Daniel Inouye
Dianne Feinstein
Tom Daschle
Mark Dayton
Richard Durbin

Republicans
Trent Lott
Ted Stevens
Mitch McConnell
Thad Cochran
Don Nickles
Kay Bailey Hutchison
Bill Frist
Gordon Smith
Saxby Chambliss

6. No Chance, No Hope

My Rep is the (dis)Honorable Christopher Cox-Big,Big,super OG,OC-R.

He owns his south to middle Orange County, CA seat, and is in turn, owned by big business in Irvine, Dana Point, and Laguna Niguel. No way he puts his name on this, unless his bank accounts were being held hostage.

I guess I could write to Loretta Sanchez, but I wonder if it will have any effect, since I'm 3 miles outside her district?

10. Try contacting her, I'm sure it couldn't hurt
Also, consider writing to Sen. Boxer and especially Sen. Feinstein (who is on the Rules and Admin Committee, to introduce (or cosponsor) a companion bill in the Senate.

8. My rep, I'm proud to say, is the incomparable Rush Holt,
who introduced the bill. I'm real proud of him! He's been my man since he defeated the Neocon pig Mike Pappas a few years ago.

We love Rush here, and many of us have bumperstickers noting that before he was a congressman, he was a leading scientist.

I want that man in higher office someday, maybe when Frank Lautenberg retires.

11. Thank you for electing him!
I think it's really great that he's introducing this bill. I'm sure that Sens. Corzine and Lautenberg will cosponsor a companion bill in the Senate, should one be authored.

14. Holt is great
I was so happy when he beat Pappas and then hung on through a tough reelection.

21. 2000 was real strange in Hopewell Township, NJ.
We had that Presidential bullshit down in Florida, Holt/Zimmer by less than a few hundred votes, and on the township level, Bartlett/Hart literally decided by one vote! (A second election was held, and Bartlett, the Democrat, held on to win by about 20 votes as I recall.)

I am proud to say that Rush pulled ahead in 2000 on the strength of absentee ballots, one of which was mine. I was out of the country on election night, and when I called my wife she told me Rush had lost. I was devastated, but Rush's eventual win was a silver lining on the cloud of the Bush installation.

Holt though has come a long way since then. He got close to 60% in the last (2002) election, and I think his seat is safe for good. This is how it should be, because although I'm getting to be an old man, Dr. Holt is the finest congressman I've had in my lifetime. He is a decent human being, a clear and brilliant thinker, a tireless representative for his constituents, and a patriot who puts the needs of his country above personal pride. Believe or not, his driving this issue of HR2239 is just the tip of the iceberg.

23. He's NJ's best congressman
He's certainly better than my congressman, Mike Ferguson.

I doubt that Lautenberg will retire soon and Holt isn't very young so maybe he should stay in the House. I think he would be a great person for a seat on the Rules Committee because he is a loyal, liberal democrat, but isn't on the left fringe of the party. He's on the Intelligence Committee so I hope that we will see him as Intelligence Committee chairman soon.

12. Lloyd Doggett!
Naturally he's on board. I was shocked, though, to see Kay Bailey Asswipe's name listed in an earlier post. She either had an attack of conscience or was replaced by a pod person with a soul. Whatever, I'm glad to see it!

17. Massachusetts ???
several Massachusetts progressives are not on the list ... anyone know why?

Key missing players are: McGovern, Markey, Delahunt, others ??

Is there a reason they are not co-sponsors? I'll call them tomorrow ... i'm sure they plan to support this bill ...

I'm really wondering why Minnesotans like Sabo and Oberstar haven't sponsored this yet.
