My local library board thumbs nose at Patriot Act.....
I love my local library board! I scared the dogs and almost spilled a carafe of coffe this morning as a result of jumping for joy when I read this in the Sunday paper:

Library board against USA PATRIOT Act

Sunday, November 30, 2003

BY BARBARA WALTERS
KALAMAZOO GAZETTE

Prior to Sept. 11, the Kalamazoo Public Library kept circulation records going back several years. Since the USA PATRIOT Act was passed soon after the 9-11 attacks, the library has been deleting records as quickly as it can to protect its patrons from the expanded powers the act gives the federal government to search its records.

The KPL Library Board has unanimously passed a resolution against the PATRIOT Act, saying it gives the FBI too much authority "to obtain library records, secretly monitor all electronic communication and prohibit libraries from informing users of such monitoring."

1. Now I've heard everything

Unpatriotic librarians. It just goes to show enemies and subversive elements are everywhere. Better get on the horn to Kellog Brown & Root to order up construction on some more prison cells on Gitmo. Obviously they are going to be needed soon to hold all the treasonous librarians attempting to overthrow freedom and democracy.

2. I've also heard stories
of libraries that post a sign that says something to the effect of, We can't tell you if the FBI comes to look at records. Just notice if this sign disappears.

Librarians are the best defenders of the first amendment this country has ever had.
