How are the Republicans going to get out the Religious Right vote.
In the last couple elections, the religious right hasn't showed up at the polls the way they did in '94.

Gore didn't help Republicans. He was a divinity school attendee (did he graduate?) and his running mate was a very observant Jew. Clinton was a baptist (right?) who spent a lot of time in church.

So, how in the world will the right get out their core voters?

Any theories?

3. Threaten them with Hell and Damnation
I assume they use the same kind of strong arm, "Jesus-hates-you" technique that they use to try to convince me that I am misguided.

6. But that hasn't worked recently as well as it worked in 94.
They're going to need something more, like the perfect candidate to run against.

9. I was trying to use the Socratic method. Wasn't trying to be stealthy.
And it's not a bash to get people to think of these issues.

Perhaps you should explain what you think Dean has planned to offset the religious right vote.

Gore reminded people that he attended divinity school and selected LIeberman as his running mate. Clinton was a baptist who spent lots of time in church.

What's Dean's plan.

He can't pretend this bloc doesn't exist.

“The day the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court announced that under the state constitution gay and lesbians had the right to marry a person of their own gender, I was speaking with a Republican operative who is no fan of the president.

"This is what's happening right now at the White House," he said. "As soon as Karl Rove pops open the champagne, he picks up the phone and calls Ralph Reed"—the former Christian Coalition whiz kid who now heads the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign in the Southeast—"and says, 'Ralph, make it happen.' That's all he has to say. Ralph knows what that means. He and the campaign have already ID'ed the congressional districts where people will be enraged by the prospect of gay marriage. They have lists of the churches, of the pastors, of the people in the pew. They have contacts with the Christian radio stations, with the newsletters. Whether Bush says much about gay marriage or not, there will be a full-force effort on this front. It won't be visibly tied to the Bush campaign. The mainstream media might not be able to see it. But it will be there. And it might win the election for Bush.”

Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of listening to conservative Christian radio knows where the rightwing Corporate Jesus lives and what power it has on the Great Unwashed.

those listening to and call in to such conservative christian broadcast programs make limbaugh's dittoheads sound like geniuses.

and these fuckers vote.

13. Ask the next question
What is it that the Republicans could do to alienate their own voter base?

No one has to remind the true believers that the same POTUS that put * in office promulgated their crisis.

The twins are far overdue for a meltdown, Noelle is out on the street lookin good, but deep down in your heart, honey you know that she ain't right, as the Janis song almost goes. This shit does not play out in clear channel wasteland.

This voting block is on the right side of the median age curve, to a large part. Charlie-Foxtroting Medicare is like pissing on the third rail while standing in a bucket of salt water to this crowd.

In fact, I hope they put every bible-thumpin, inbred neurotic they can shove in front of a camera to declare the Democratic candidate of their choice Satan incarnate. I want that clip on at Six and Ten.

The next question after that would be why would we want to run someone without clear Democrat traditional values, or for that matter, even let such a person run the party?

That is the real urgent issue, isn't it?

These people will crawl out of their fucking graves to vote! They'll request absentee ballots for the Rapture. The question should be how are we going to get Democrats off their butts?

16. Since 94, their turnout has dropped in about half (if memory serves)
it was over 25% in '94 and has dropped to between 10-15%, even though about 25% of all Americans ID themselves as religious right.
