During the malpractice special session here, other things happened.

Jeb Bush signed an elections bill Thursday that puts Florida in line to receive millions of federal dollars to update antiquated voting equipment and suspends the state's primary runoff again for 2004.
It also sets the 2004 primary election for Aug. 31, nine weeks prior to the general election.
"I think most people are optimistic . . .
we will have a good series of elections between now and November of 2004," said Bush, who will again have his older brother, President Bush, at the top of the ballot in the state that determined the presidency in 2000...."
AND...enter Glenda Hood...with no legislative oversight.
SNIP...."Democrats unsuccessfully sought to keep the primary in September, but Secretary of State Glenda Hood, a Bush appointee, said county supervisors need time between the primary and general elections to ensure they could resolve disputes and distribute ballots for the November election...."END SNIP
It scares me to think this lady who hates libraries, wants to curtail their activities or give them to Nova et al, has more power than Kate Harris ever did! She is in charge of elections. She has been so snide to the librarians and others who worked to save the state library. The legislature funded it in spite of her and Jeb, so now they are going to "closed stacks." And weren't there budget problems when she left Orlando as Mayor?
What is this with doing away with run-offs? They are determined. They did this during the malpractice special session.
