A DUer called into C-SPAN this AM...
and said he/she wanted to mention DU during the call in? This is a serious strategy question. Is it better that when we call in or write in, they do not know we are with DU? Unless we tell them, they might think we are just an "average" American calling in, which in reality, we are. But once we tell them "democratic underground" they will tend to minimize your comments as some leftist remarks. Knowing that many are very proud of DU and wants others to know about the website, it is understandable to want to tell others where you are coming from. However, in my opinion, it is best if we keep our anonymity when engaging the right-wingers in other outlets and media. Does anyone else see the strategic importance in this? Or do we need more and more people to know about DU, which I am sure Skinner and Admin would have a difficult time with this question, understandably so?

1. Anonymity is the best.......
I mean.....those fundie right wingers calling from Rush's staff don't announce who they are affiliated with. They sound like some citizen calling from his cell phone at 5th and Main......just interested in speaking up, finally, about something. Yeah right.......

2. But......I wouldn't mind saying I was from that OTHER board........
and that I am changing my mind about things......as things don't add up. But that would be disingenuous and dishonest. Sort of. I was a republican when I was 12, and my dad told me that's what we were........

3. I think that we should NOT mention it..

We should present ourselves as ordinary citizens (which we are) and not press a certain agenda.. This will have a broader appeal.. The fact that we call ourselves democrats is enough.. Anyone who is familiar with the web or even just starting can find us , by typing democrat in their browser..

If the host ASKS, I always tell them..

and with the rw screeners and hosts that they have, they are likely to just cut you off mid-sentence..

I always start out by saying nice things and then drop a zinger or two..

I write down the bullet points that I want to make and while I am on hold, I link them together in a freeform narrative so that it's not just listing stuff..

We all need to keep calling in and pressing the Diebold/Hagel connection..
I know he is connected to ES&S, but MOST people have never heard of the company names of these machines.. TOUCH SCREEN VOTING MACHINES should be the way we approach it.. It simplifies it and people can relate to it..

Hagel voting machine in google will bring up a lot of stuff..

The next timie I get through, I am going to plant THIS seed..

We have the wrong people in congress & senate.. The machines cheated us and the loser are in office instead of the ones who got the most votes... Some food for thought..

my 2 cents :)
