Do the math: * landed in Baghdad under cover of darkness. He only stayed 2 1/2 hours. The "turkey dinner" we saw on TV was at breakfast time. If all those guys were served a turkey dinner at that time, the cooks would have had to be cooking all night. The clips we saw were short and shown over and over. * holding the platter with a whole turkey. * dishing out one helping and handing the full plate to a soldier, who carried it away. The rest of the guys were just standing around, it seemed. I don't remember seeing guys in great numbers eating turkey. I'll bet they cooked up maybe one turkey and served it up for the purpose of the photo-op and the rest of the guys ate dinner at their usual time.

(or mid) afternoon, approximately when most people would eat thanksgiving dinner:

Here is a timeline for Bush's surprise visit Thursday to Iraq, as provided by the White House.
-8:25 p.m. EST Wednesday, leaves Waco, Texas.

-11:05 p.m. EST Wednesday, leaves Washington.

-9:31 a.m. EST Thursday, lands in Baghdad.

-12:03 EST leaves Baghdad.

on edit - here's a site to convert from EST to baghdad time:

OK, just to be totally clear - it appears to me that mr. bush was in baghdad from 5:31 to 8:03 PM local time - a reasonable time to be eating thanksgiving dinner!

11. Great Point!
While I do have a tendency to eat late many of my friends and family think I'm nutso. Not many eat dinner at 11:00 pm!

Thanks!!

7. "let's not get carried away here"
We are in GD, remember, the home of hysteria, tinfoil, and Howard Dean. Facts, logic, truth, and debate aren't welcome in these here parts, unnerstan?

Wonder how the tinfoilers would explain the British Airways pilot who saw Air Force One on its way east?

8. I never suggested the visit didn't happen
What I'm saying is that the dinner was staged to suit the Boy King's purposes, timewise, and that the troops most likely ate their dinner at their usual time. The kitchen didn't seem geared up for a full dinner.

10. I got your point kskiska. He probably served for maybe 5 minutes before
he "ducked out" and we don't know whether it was one table set up to look like everyone was eating at the same time. Since they stage everything, why should we believe that this occurred as a natural photo op or a staged one.

It happened but how much was "set up" in advance for maximum effect.

12. but one point is that the dinner was at the troops normal dinner
time!

(otherwise, i'm not disputing your points, it's just that the "breakfast" argument, which is incorrect, undermines the remainder of your thesis)

15. they were told to expect a VIP visit
So they had some advance knowledge a bigwig was coming, hence the cameras.

Ah, sweet reason! Death to tinfoil.

16. it had to be set up
you don't just walk in and shoot tv footage. There had to be lighting and sound set up not to mention a tv camera crew team to arrive in advance to set it up before Bush arrived. Like the fake Kuwait landing during Bush 1, the tv crew HAD to be sent in first before the filming of the troops stroming in to lay cable set up lighting and sound.

It's frightening this blurring between reality and scripted fantasy the Bushites are foisting on upon us.
