When will the media stop calling the pResident "popular"?
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 12:22 PM by Woodstock
His approval is in the low 50's and sinking. He's even lower when it comes to the economy and other issues. He's just about neck and neck with an unnamed Democrat in election polls - and goodness knows what will happen when people actually get to know - and like - some of the Democrats running.

This article in The Sun is positive, yet even so, the author feels compelled to slip in the "the still-popular president" line.

1. Maybe when he Loses the election in 2004? Do ya think they
might get the message then? And then maybe Reality will sink in?

2. I'm sick of it too
it's like they feel and obligation, due to their Bush whoredom, to insert a bit of a disclaimer into any dismal news about their boy king.

3. Lewis Black asked "Who's running these poll numbers, Paula Abdul?"
Not a direct quote but a paraphrase.

I see more and more of Bush supporters shaking their heads and wondering what's happening.
My friend, a lifelong Republican, told me the other day that the
sound of his voice on TV makes her feel like nails on a chalkboard.

As long as the GOP can make the average American believe that he is
still popular, they have a chance of having him re-selected.

12. There's been some coverage of his sinking poll numbers
I recall some lead stories on yahoo when the CNN/Time poll came out. I think as soon as one poll has him under 50 percent the dam might really break.

7. When the entire US population shows up at the White House
carrying torches and pitchforks...

Shepard Smith will say, "It looks like a few hundred people seem to disagree with our popular President."

Seriously
I agree - everytime a talking head says that I want to scream. I doubt very seriously even 50% is accurate - I think its much lower (my guess about 32%) which is why they are having to cut him loose.

8. Change comes slowly
Remember, it seemed like only yesterday they were calling him "very popular." Now he's just "popular." Hey, that's progress. And technically, any rating over 50 percent is good, but he is getting into vulnerable territory now - a scenario that seemed unthinkable a few short weeks ago.

11. Well...
If Michael Jackson can still be called the King of Pop, then Bush can still be popular...

Just like the senior prom queen can come to the 20 year reunion and still be popular.
