My letter to the editor was printed
Huddled Masses; Muddled Glenn Beck

I just finished reading Larry Durstin's "Huddled Masses" column (July 9). Anyways, I, like Durstin, spent my July Fourth at an event whose theme seemed to be more 'hate liberals' than love America. The audience cheered venomously every time the Charlie Daniels band wannabees substituted the word "liberal" or "Democrat" for the "Devil" in the Daniels song, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." But, for the first time in over 20 years, the liberal-hating huzzahs from the right -- other than those from the very few, the very angry, the very pasty -- seemed tired and flat.

Used to be you couldn't swing a block of free government cheese without hitting an angry, vocal, radical right-wing "revolutionary" in the love handles. An op-ed piece from one of the corporate-funded, ultra-conservative rags recently said that the right-wing "movement" has been so successful because it "feeds the rage." What possible rage could that be? I guess irony is truly dead, when one of the most privileged groups of people in history -- white, upper middle class, suburban Americans think themselves victims of the poor.

But now, for the first time since Ronald Reagan's opening State of the Union Address (he lied and exaggerated a threat to America back then, too) I feel optimistic that the rage is getting redirected back to where it rightfully belongs. To the right. The righties are getting quieter and quieter. Downright (no pun intended) sheepish.

Despair not, Mr. Durstin. The liberal backlash cometh -- supersized. We Americans are too honest, too practical, too generous a people to continue to fall victim to a movement whose only attraction is fear, envy, rage and greed. We, as a people, will see through the smokescreen of fear and will no longer fall victim to the divisive rage, which camouflages the right's ultimate motive -- greed.

The mindless gluttony of the right-wing agenda will ultimately set the table for its own Last Supper. And no one can protect the right from themselves.

Happy belated Fourth, Mr. Durstin. And God bless America.

I especially liked this part:

Now I just hope it works as an alarm clock for some. I know some will never wake up but a few more every day are beginning to dare to ask questions.

7. That is the BEST LTE I have ever seen!!!!!
hands down!

Thank you............I now nominate you as the person who shall lead the charge on debunking the rage against liberals and setting the record straight. Pretty crappy that we want clean rivers and oceans, no extinctions (including our own), an educated populace, REAL care for our seniors. We *are* such wretches, aren't we?

12. The Hate
"An op-ed piece from one of the corporate-funded, ultra-conservative rags recently said that the right-wing "movement" has been so successful because it 'feeds the rage.'"

I've already said that Bush's term in office should be named "The Hate." The author's words and your account of the concert are errily similar to the focused hate sessions from Orwell's novel, 1984.
