BBV: Diebold machines are in foreign countries. Which?
**you don't have to read this whole thing...for my Q you can just scroll down to the asterisks**

I am talking with someone from BBC Monitoring about getting stories on voting machines. I want to make sure that the international communities that are using and planning to use American "voting technology" are also fully apprised on the "review" of that technology that is going on here.

(I honestly, I was actually trying to get the Johns Hopkins report and NYT article to the BBC to review and report on two nights ago......and it all transmuted into something else when I found BBC Monitoring. I can't explain it. But as long as I have someone's ear at the news database service leg of the BBC -- figured I would try to educate on the subject. Because........don't they use Diebold machines in the UK? Bet they are PLANNING to as the brits seem to be taking our lead on a lot of things. So, I figure, why not try to get some interest up there and maybe one of their news archivists might start a database specifically on ELECTION stuff the world over? Who knows?)

They wrote me back with this information:

"I must point out that BBC Monitoring primarily exists to satisfy the
information needs of the BBC and the British Government. We specialise in obtaining information which is generally hard to source i.e.. FSU, Central Asia and Europe and therefore coverage of UK and USA is considered not to be necessary by our stakeholders. We could however, supply material relevant to international relations between other countries and the USA.

I would also be grateful if you could supply me with a bit more detail on your request for voting systems. If this is a specific area of interest to you, BBC Monitoring Online, web database may be more relevant to your information needs."

***I am sending this woman the Johns Hopkins and NYT article links. But I want to be able to say with certainty WHICH countries in the world are using DIEBOLD. Isn't Spain using them? Is the UK? There was a DU1 thread with international a while ago. Any voting machine people out there able to name a few key countries that use Diebold voting machines and software??????

3. Thanks........
Seemslike -- nah.....I don't have the time or the inclination to do actual research on it...but will keep that in mind re nicaragua (I think the US has taken a renewed interest in nic of late......scary for THEM for sure...probably needs a bad boy to confront/help with the 'cuba problem')

Yeah, I remember another country being noted as buying the machinse and thinking the same thing.

Maybe the BBC experts will pipe in and give me a few key countries......european union countries would be good.

Ohhhhhhhhh........was it POLAND?????? Our newest best friend?

And some German cities introduced them recently (again: I don't know the Brand).

5. Here's some info from the companies themselves
A buyer's guide to election equipment.

Extensive info. I know that there are four dominant companies in the U.S. Three are the following. I can't remember if Unisys is the fourth, or who. Hart InterCivic is a US company, mostly in Texas.

Anyway, note that one of the biggies, Sequoia, is a subsidiary of a British company. Note that two of the companies claim they did lots of work in Brazil.

Mods - note this is not an article but public advertising/listing by companies, so should not be affected by copyright.

8. Brazil used "kiosk" style machines in Oct 2002 election
Don't know what vendor made them. See Dr Rebecca Mercuri's article "Electronic Voting" http://www.notablesoftware.com/evote.html.
