Poll question: If we have a draft for Iraq what would you do?
Edited on Thu Nov-27-03 04:13 PM by dkf
If you are draft age, what would you do?

If you are not of draft age, what would you advise your kids to do?

1. I don't have kids, but
if I did I would leave the country and take them with me. No way would I let a child of mine die for Halliburton's profits. No way.

2. So what happened to all those people in the other poll who said they
would have gone to Vietnam.

Was the Vietnam war that much more justified?

Does this have to do with believing in the particular war?

7. Resist!
That is not what I would advise, that is what I did.

I would tell whoever to make up their own mind and follow their conscience.

8. Other: Start a Draft deferment Underground.
Where people that don't want to die for Bush in Iraq, will be smuggled and housed from house to house. And then as part of this Underground, we would make sure that the new dem president pardoned these conscientious objectors.

12. Here we go again!
Resistance to the draft is the only solution. I will advise everyone to use the "gay orientation" as a way to get out of the draft. I will even vouch for you! In other words, I see nothing ethically wrong about lying to the draft board by telling them that I know so-and-so is gay.

According to Judaism, you can break any law to save a life. Getting people out of the draft is saving lives.

I reject Oceania's permanent wars.

10. Move to Canada or Turkey.
I'm a Turkish citizen, but I don't speak much of the language. I think goin up to Canada would be easier.

14. Enroll in college....
Automatic deferment in most areas, depending on the draft board you faced.

15. I dunno
On the one hand, I don't have a built in aversion to serving in the military.

But I do have 3 kids and a wife who depend on me and I cant imagine abandoning them to go play soldier!

If I were single and drafted, Id just go..but lifes more complicated with a family..

16. I was given a "get out of jail" free card
I joined the Marines many years ago not long after the Post-Cold War world developed. However I never made it though bootcamp due to medical reasons. In hindsight, I realize how crazy the whole experience was and now I'm glad that I got a second chance to life again. I'd probably be in Iraq if I wasn't discharged. Therefore I can basically tell any drafter to go screw himself after I show him my release papers.

Once I finish with my education once and for all, I would love to move to a tropical island (with a stop in the Northwest first) and make movies. The only thing that I would do differently if there were a draft is that I would make movies that also have a political purpose in addition to an educational and entertainment purpose. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to recruit a few pretty actresses to come with me.

17. I'd advise my cousins' kids on options 2 and 3. . .
failing that, I'd have them feign homosexuality or something else just as "immoral".

If I have anything to do with it, NONE of my extended family is gonna wear a uniform for that phony in the WH is removed.
