Troops Silenced at Fort Carson

I just posted this at my blog, but I wanted everyone here to see it too.

Gag order leaves troops, reporters speechless

COLORADO SPRINGS - Before the press was herded into the giant hangar in advance of George W. Bush's pep rally/photo op with the Fort Carson troops, we were given the rules.

No talking to the troops before the rally.

No talking to the troops during the rally.

No talking to the troops after the rally.

In other words, if I've done the math right, that means no conversation at all - at least, while on base - with any soldiers. After all, who knows where that kind of thing could lead?

8. so I went to buy a turkey

I haven't been to the local meat market for a long time, but decided to stop by today. One of the owners has a son, an old student of mine, who I knew was stationed in Iraq.

Small talk_ Me: How's Tim doing?

He: He's in Iraq.

Me: Yeah, I knew that, we keep tabs on what our kids are doing.

He: He's near Mosul so I thought he'd be okay.

Me: Ooooo, they just lost those guys in the convoy.

He: He calls home and always asks what we're seeing on TV. It ain't nothing like what he's seeing. He's seeing a war.

Long story short. I was late getting home because we ended up talking for a long time. We will talk again.

Question: How does one report anything for the inside of Dick Cheney's asshole? There is so much blood on the media's hands. There will always be lying tyrants, that is why we knew we needed a free press. I blame them more than anyone else.
