"Suicide" suspected for Navy Secretary nominee
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 09:40 AM by SpiralHawk
DU has another thread on this story in LBN (linked below), but I wanted to start a new thread to bring the "suicide" issue to the forefront.

Specifically, the local TV stations in Albuquerque, NM are reporting this AM that the sheriffs in Roswell, NM are saying that this is a "suicide." But that the "circumstances are still cloudy."

Sniff, sniff. Why is my nose twitching over this story?

New Mexico oilman picked by * to be Navy secretary, has died

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/07/24/obit.mcmillan.ap/index.html

"New Mexico oilman Colin R. McMillan, nominated by President Bush to be Navy secretary, has died, the Pentagon said Thursday."

"McMillan, 67 at the time of his nomination in May, lived in Roswell, New Mexico. He ran Permian Exploration Corp., and was chairman of Bush's New Mexico presidential campaign in 2000."

1. ok so..
My ignorance has stopped me from reading the article as of yet, but where are you going with this?

Why would a Bush murder his own roadies?

3. Yes, Why? And if it is an authentic suicide, why again?
Something is Massively Fishy here.

4. It's a reasonable question you ask....
McMillan would get along splendidly with the Bushies. Right-wing, oil & gas, can't imagine there would be something awful surfacing in nomination hearings, since he was previously in the first Bush administration, I believe, and has been reasonably vetted in the last twelve years or so.

If the reports of suicide are plausible in the evidence, I would first suspect despondency over some debilitating terminal illness before I would consider nefarious behavior.

Cheers.

2. Did he have some hideous secret that would have come out in the hearings?
Golly, gonna have to watch NM TV, again. The network stations are all sooooo awful I've been passing this by, except for forest fires.

As I suspected, he was not in Roswell, but at his Otero County ranch. Found shot to death, but the family spokesman (mayor of Roswell, Bill Owen) says foul play was not suspected.

10. Story doesn't mention McMillan or any of his...
... companies. That story developed because a subsidiary of Enron, EOTT (now spun off) was simply trying to protect itself from a class-action suit which likely should have been directed at a previous owner of the property and pipeline, Texas-New Mexico Pipeline.

Yes, there's always the possibility of something ugly turning up, but just because he's from NM doesn't mean that he's responsible for every odd occurrence in the state.

Maybe his recurring cancer caused him lose hope and pull the trigger?

Navy chief nominee may have killed self
By RICHARD BENKE
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Oilman Colin McMillan, who was awaiting Senate confirmation as Navy secretary, died at his ranch from an apparent gunshot wound, and investigators said Friday it might have been self-inflicted.

"All indications are it could be suicide, but we're not going to reach that conclusion until the investigation is over," said District Attorney Scot Key of Alamogordo.

McMillan "had a recurrence of cancer," but "everybody thought he was recovered, recuperating quite well," Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said Friday on the Senate floor.
