Presidential Debates...
Ok...I know we still have time before they start squaring off in debates...

But...how do you think that Dean or Kerry will do against chimpy...?

Without his teleprompters will chimpy be able to compete...or will he have a copy of the questions before the debate so he can rehearse his answers...?

Just curious...I hit my head on the headboard and the idea just pop'd in there...so I'm curious as to what you all think...?

I think it's going to be good...

1. Either one of them
would eat the chimp for lunch.

They would demolish him.

It wouldn't even be a contest....but it would be funny!

2. There will be no debates..
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 08:32 AM by SoCalDem
There will be some "crisis" that needs handling by "this popular wartime president"..

They know they got incredibly lucky in 2000 with the debates.. They will not risk it this time..

They will try everything humanly possible to avoid any debates..

I will gladly eat my words if it happens, but don't count on it..

3. I Can't Wait To Hear Dean Rail On AWOL For Leaving EVERY
low income family child behind. He's going to call AWOL on every promise he made and has failed to keep!

4. Bush got a pass on the last ones
as everyone was expecting him to fall flat on his face. It's not that he gave such a stellar performance, it's that he managed not to drool for an hour, which, according to the media whores, gave him the "win."

Not gonna happen this time.

5. Either would bust him up....
...but, Kerry would beat him like a red-headed stepchild. He would absolutely run circles around Bush...

I don't believe Bush would try to get out of debates. I mean, how obvious a cop-out would that be to the general public???

6. It also would be nice to see a real Debate
As opposed to joint press conferences as I think they called it on the West Wing. A chance for give and take and discussion--instead of "Here's a question. Now clip out that part of your stump speech that deals with this, rattle it off, and we'll move on to the next question.

8. Agree with SoCalDem...no debates.
Can you image either Kerry or Dean hammering *. There is so much ammunition and they can actually speak the King's English.

This is how I "debates"

Questioner: Mr. President, what was our purpose of raging a war with Iraq and do you feel that you had evidence that SH was an imminent threat when the rest of the world didn't?

Bush*: If you are asking me whether Saddad Hussein was a bad man; there is no question he is.

If you are asking me whether Saddam Hussein was a threat - look he gassed his own people, there are mass graves....blah blah

9. The question is: Would Chimpy's handlers allow him to "debate"
without something like teleprompters? He'd at least have to have answers spelled out for him on paper.

10. great posts...
I for one would love to see him squirm under the pressure...

maybe they can give him an earpiece so Rove can tell him what to say after each questions...

Judgeing by what I saw today in the Rose Garden...he looked bored...if you looked closely you could see him tapping his fingers on teh podium...he looked bored and impatient...

I can't wait until the debates start...and if he doesn't debate...then the whole country will know that he's not the man they thought he was...

11. The debates
will be so structured that it will be impossible for anyone to truly shine against Bush. Structured short answer debates will be the only kind Bush will agree to. Then the media will praise him - just like the last time.

Dem candidates will have to get their message out without counting on the debates. THe debates will be a pitifully staged formality. :puke:
