Suspicious- I think W&Co. are tryng to hit one out of the park today

U.S. November Consumer Confidence Rises to 91.7 From 81.7

http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000006&sid=aWyRfSMDuw7w&refer=home

U.S. GDP Grows at 8.2 Percent Pace in 3Q
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A12766-2003Nov25.html

The supposed “Big WIN” for the Republicans in the Medicare bill passed today. Oh the energy plan was shelved until the next session but that does not support my point so let’s forget it (as NBC did this morning by just mentioning it in passing).

The timing of this seems a bit suspicious to me. The “good news good news” is hitting the airwaves and newspapers TWO days before the holiday as opposed to releasing bad news or news they don’t want anyone to see on Fridays or just before major holidays.

I don’t usually buy into theories such as this but it strikes me as odd.

1. Anything to distract from the failures
Unemployment still high, Iraq still a quagmire, no Saddam, no Osama, people don't have healthcare, on and on.

The lapdog media will trumpet *'s few "successes" to help us forget about his monumental failures. A preview of Campaign 2004, if you will.

3. This is the party
Wait three month. When the revised numbers come out it will be the hangover.

I'm serious here. Have you seen the numbers on christmas sales? volume is up because prices are way down on retail goods, which will mean a flat seasonal upswing followed by an immediate dropoff.

The good news is that chocolate rations have been doubled this month and that toilet paper production has increased by 20%. </Orwellian Sarcasm>

7. This good news may be...
designed to help drive the post Christmas, biggest pre-Christmas sales day in the desired direction. If they can temporarily boost consumer confidence through positive economic news, they may well drive sales to help both indicate and reinforce the economic recovery.

It is a case of using the positive news and timing its release to drive more positive news.

The families will all be gathered two days from now, so the press releases have to come today, as tomorrow everyone will be too busy packing/travelling/cooking, etc. to turn on the news...and when the families are all gathered 'round the table, and hippie Uncle Libral sneaks out for a bone and starts going off on Bush at the dinner table, Brother Ned and the Wal Mart Gang will be able to toss a metaphorical blob of mashed yams at the crazy Clinton lover, and spout all the facts and figures and headlines and soundbites and Rushisms they heard today, as they grasp hands and praise the lord for sending Bush unto thee to save America from the great, ever-elusive evil doers! PRAISE THE LORD AND PASS ME CREAMED ONIONS! Uncle Libral just hates America.

Not the slightest bid ODD at all. Brilliant, in fact.

Read E.J. Dionne's column today...absolutely correct. The dems are losing because of the very thing that makes us democrats, and the republicans are winning because of the very thing that makes them republicans; dems are compassionate and willing to enter into negotiations with the expectation of fairness, while the republicans are playing for keeps, and will stop at nothing -- nothing -- to get what they want when they want it. Including pretending to play fair with the democrats.

Friends, a whole bunch of democrats abandoned America today, and every one of them should be removed from office...immediately after Tom Daschle.

9. Okay that is what I was going after
The dinner table scene. Exactly. I'll read the column in a bit.

The repubes are very good at the KISS method, give their supports quick short (if inaccurate and not outright deceiving) lines to spew and for those not sure-- to stick in their heads. Sort of bubblegumpop politics.

While the Dems start with, "Well....but we have to consider...." which you should but no one wants to avert their eyes from Average Joe or Joe Millionaire, I mean come on THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!

Hippie Uncle Liberal is going to have a long weekend.

8. They're trying to create an artificial "good mood" so that people will
spend, spend, spend this Thanksgiving holiday. The truth will come out a week from now.

Someone should start logging all these harbingers of good news that continue to fall flat on their faces. It's like the Orange alerts. It's just being done to create a desired reaction from the public. Right now they need Americans to go out and shop! So, make them feel like there's no reason to save their money, or worse, wait until after Christmas to celebrate Christmas because that's when everything gets marked down in price.

http://www.commerce.gov/opa/press/2003_Releases/November/25_evans_gdp_stmt.htm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, November 25, 2003

SECRETARY EVANS STATEMENT
ON GDP REVISION
“This Thanksgiving, we are thankful but not complacent about our growing economy. As the holiday season begins, families are shopping with confidence because the economy is gathering added steam and creating more jobs. The President’s tax relief is growing our economy even faster than was originally thought. The President will not rest until every American seeking work can find a job.”

16. I think we are as close to living in the Soviet Union as we ever have been
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 11:57 AM by tom_paine
"Comrades, toilet paper production has gone up, 600%!"

Sure it has.

And yes, it absolutely is about pumping up shopping on Friday. You see, we are still half-in and half-out of the Old Republic and Imperial (Soviet-style) Amerika.

Which makes for a grotesque amalgm of lies and half-truths as the Busheviks push for the Total Lie Environment of the Old Soviet Union that they envy so.

In doing so, they must purge and bully, push and alter and falsify by whatever means necessary...willing to give up a step to take three forward, knowing that eventually they will trample over everything anyway.

Simply put: Not numbers now coming from the Imperial Family can be trusted any more than numbers coming from the Old Soviet Union.

(well, perhaps just a little bit more, but only because of the drag placed on Imperial Liars by the old structure which they are getting rid of as quickly as they can)
